If you are fishing the guts outside of Dewberry, hope you don't run into whatever it was that wasy slicing our cohahoe's up weekend before last.
We were running outside a way, heading north, and saw very "nervous" water about 50-60 yds off the island. Swung in for a drift and first cast something HAMMERED my plasitic. Set the hook and it pulled loose fairly easy. Got it in and it was sliced, like with a scalple sliced, in three places, about 3/8" apart. One before the front of the barb, one and the bend of the hook, and one behind the hook. The slice in front of the barb cut all the way around the hook. The back just fell off in my hand. Came off the hook in three seperate pieces.
Dad had much the same multiple slice result, except one cut in and went down the side about a 5/8". Carved right out and all he felt was a little thump.
We each lost two plastics, due to being sliced up, in about three casts each, then it was gone.
Been fishing down there since '72 or so and have never seen anthing like it.
Dad looked over at a gull sitting on the water and said "if he knew what we did, he wouldn't be there too much longer.."
