How long do you want to ignore this user?
I figure its time to make my own washer pit and I need the OBs help.

I seem to remember a thread awhile back about building one so if someone with some stars wouldn't mind pulling that up or if somebody just wants to tell me how to build one it would be much appricated.

Washer Pit
1) Get 3 in PVC pipe
2) Cut PVC pipe to desired hole depth
3) Put pipe in ground
4) Fill in outside space.
5) ??????
6) Profit!

If you are looking to build a washer pit, you will find a lot of different sets of rules and pit dimensions. I grew up playing on 21' pits that were nothing more than a 3" pvc coupling flush with the ground placed 21' apart. We play with 3 washers per player, some play with 4. We use 2.5" washers with a 1" hole in the middle. Here is a link to bombat washers for a reference on pit layout and the rules.

Or do you want to know how to make boards?

Ya it was late, I meant boards and said pit.

Anyone who used anything more than a couple of 16 oz tin cans with the top cut open and a hand trowel to bury it in the ground up to the top isn't really playing washers the way it was meant to be played.

Advice taken. Digging a hole it is!

Get two 3" STEEL pipe sections about 5" long each. Drive each section into the ground until the top of the pipe is slightly below grade. Take a large screwdriver and excavate the dirt from inside each pipe.

Get eight 1" washers. (one inch is the size of the bolt that they are disigned for) Its four for each player/team.

And for the sake of all things Aggie, DO NOT PLAY BUST!

Of course all of that is just my opinion.

If you still want boards, I can tell you/email you a rough sketch of how i made mine.

Expensive part for me was the big hole drill bit thing (I forget name off top of my head). I could sell you mine for cheap (no need for it anymore).

Also, that website has some slick Aggie logo washers and a nice set.

It's kind of Hollywood, I know, but I got a set of maroon and white washers for Christmas from them and have LOVED them.

FWIW, my brother did make a nice set of portable washerpits last year.

This is how I have always made them.

Take two 2ft 2X6s and cut diagonally from one corner to the other. These will be the two sides of your two boxes.

Screw one piece 2ftX2ft plywood (either ½ or 3/8 inch can’t remember which I like better) to each set.

I used a jigsaw to cut out the holes. Just found some lid in the kitchen that was 4in in diameter to sketch. I guess if you wanted to be precise, you could use a compass.

I also screw a 2X4 underneath the box a few inches above the hole attaching the sides for support.

Go to Home Depot and get some of that outdoor carpet. They have several different colors.

Washers are played on compacted clay. All you need is a spoon to dig a hole.

Want some real old time fun. Dump the washers and find a set of JARTS online. Try "pitching" 35 ft instead of 10 or so.

It is not illegal to own them, and just a "jart in the eye" of our overprotective, overlegislative government.

the only place you will find or be able to obtain full sets is online, as they cannot be sold "retail" anymore.

Blackmarket Jarts! Thats what I'm talking about!

My grandma used to have a set of lawndarts. And they used to let us play with them as kids...hmmm...

Noone ever got impaled, but those jarts sure as heck got misused...playing "ninja" and the like...

Growing up we had a set of Jarts. They finally got taken away after my brother took one in the deltoid and another one was impaled into the roof decking on the house. Fun while they lasted though!

As you can see from this thread washers are played many different ways. All are fun (that I've played) and provided different challenges. I prefer boards, but I've had fun no matter what kind of set up I play on.
