Wondering what brands yall have had the most success with. Last job didn't require steel toes and the new one does. Cost is not really an issue. Thanks!

I was a Wolverine man for years until I was directed to RedWing. I'll never go back, never.

I second Red Wings...when I had a job that I had to wear them.

if work requires them. then they should pay for them. see if you can expense them.

if they dont, keep that receipt. they are tax deductible.

steel toe boots are great until you drop a pipe on your foot and cut all five toes off.

Hard to go wrong with a pair of Red Wing 4406.

I also had a pair of Rocky Sawblades that were good.

I have the ones that chili posted and I love them. They used to be called Pecos, IIRC. Looks like they're just a number, now. I've been wearing them as my primary daily shoe since '95 or so. I'm on my third pair, but the others are still wearable - just beat to hell. Great boots.

When I was required to wear them I had a pair of Pecos. They survived 4 years of working at a surface coal mine and were extremely comfortable and durable. They're still in my closet (minus the coal dust) if I should ever be required to wear them again.

I have a pair of Wolverine Durashocks and love them. But after reading all these posts, I may have to give the Redwings a chance next time I need a new pair.

I've got a pair of Redwing Pecos and they've survived some nasty oil patch conditions. I also have some cheaper ones from Academy, Wolverines I think, and they pretty much sucked. The Redwings took longer to break in, but once that happens they're great.

I like 6" lace-ups for work boots. I am a fan of Red Wing and you can't go wrong with them.

However, I had an Academy gift certificate and I gave these Timberlands a shot. They are by far the most comfortable work boot I have ever worn, and they're not even fully broken in yet.

Go to a redwing store. They not only have several other brands (mostly made by redwing) with various features that you may like, but they are generally staffed by people who know a lot more than the average shoe salesperson. My personal opinion is that any brand you can buy at Academy and similar stores are find for the weekender and light duty person (like me), but for the pro, you need Redwings and similar brands -- i.e. ones that you can at least ask if they will resole when necessary. I also think the low end boots at Redwing stores (Carhartt brand being one) are much better than anything at Academy.

Remember that depending on your foot, you can get insoles that would make a quality boot more comfortable than it is, so don't be put off by initial comfort. For example, I put insoles in my boots that helped me to stand for several hours almost like I was wearing running shoes.

Dr. Martens makes steel toed boots that are very comfortable. They have a flexible and soft but rugged, sole and insole. Feel as comfortable as tennis shoes other than the weight. Only downside is they always remind me of middle school.

Comfort also goes with type. When I was in the military, standard issue was 10" speed lace. Now that I'm in the oil patch, the only 10" boot is a logger style with a puncture-resistant plate in the sole - pretty hard on the feets.

The next best thing as far as a lace-up (IMO) is the 2408. Put in a pair of Dr. Scholl's and you'll be gellin'. I've had my pair of 2408 for five years and I'm very satisfied with them.

If you want to slog in the mud/muck and not worry too much about wet feet, try the 4434 although I hear they get a bit warm...

I haven't had a pair of slip-on (Wellington), but those are next on the list to try out.

I have two pair of Wolverine Compressors and looked at Redwings when it was time to buy a new pair but they did not fit my budget so I bought Wolverines.

I where the heels off pretty quick and the Compressor heels cannot be replace.

Where do ya'll get your boots resoled in B/CS?

I second the Dr. Martens. I just bought a pair myself to replace my 1 year old Wolverine Durashocks that blew out. That was my second and last pair of Wolverines... they just do not hold up well. These Docs were hell to break in (what pair of boots isn't?) but are very comfortable now, and seem to be holding up quite well, so far.

I second the Timberlands that Barney posted. I just bought a pair a few weeks ago and they are unbelievably comfortable. I had been a Red Wing wearer for nearly 15 years, but didn't like the new pair I bought about a year ago, so I gave the Timberlands a try.

My first pair was Wolverine Durashocks and they were super comfortable. Only problem was the 'Durashock' part of the sole eventually started ripping off and water would soak through the bottom.
That said, I've done the same thing with Red Wings but it was simply wearing it all the way through, not pieces coming off.
I currently wear Red Wing steel toes and they are just fine.

Went to Cavenders today looking for a good rodeo sale on ostrich skin boots but one of the sales guys told me they really don't have any special sales for the rodeo because people will buy boots anyway. He also said this is their busiest day of the year every year and are forecast for $125K in sales today alone at the 290 location.

Redwing will resole them for you, because you KNOW they will last for at least 2 sets of soles....

Best boots i've ever owned, and I was planning on taking mine up to the Redwing store this weekend to get another sole put on.

I have had Justin, Red Wing, Wolverine and now Danner.
I will never buy anything but Danner again. They are easily the most comfortable boots I have ever owned. In fact they are the most comfortable shoes of any type I have ever owned. I wear them everywhere now. They can resole and completely overhaul the entire boot for you if you wear them out and send them back looking like new.

I've used Red Wing for a while...after trying various brands. What is really outstanding is the service you get from the company. They fixed several problems (mainly from wear & tear) without any charge.
Look for composite toe instead of steel toe. They meet the same ASTM safety certification and are lighter.

I have had 3 pairs of durashocks, everytime i try on Red Wings before the Wolverines and my feet just don't fit well in their boots. Make sure to try on all the ones mentioned above

I have this pair of durashocks for 10 years. Been through 3 sets of new soles, but I love how comfortable they are.

But I would never turn down a good pair of Red Wings.
