Does anyone know why this thing won't work? All of a sudden it says "Internal Memory Unknown Format. Attach USB and Reformat"

Sucks. But when I try to reformat the Rio Software or computer doesn't even recognize that the Forge is even there.

It sucks because I haven't been able to get it to work the last week or so and am dependent on it when I run. I don't even want to run without it.

I have the Rio Forge too so I might be able to help..

First off, did you add additional memory?

The only card the Rio Forge will take is of the SD variety, Secure Digital.

With mine I didn't even bother installing the software. This is not required to add/delete music to your Forge.

You should be able to plug it via USB and your cpu (provided that you have XP) will recognize the Forge as an external hard drive.

It does.... Actually I think it picks up two Rio Forge drives for some reason.

No Memory Card.

The problem is the rio software itself is not recognizing the Forge. And I tried re-installing it but it still doesn't work.

I searched and found a few instances where other people have the same problem but the instructions to fix it is dificult.

I almost want to buy another mp3 player but don't even know if it's the Rio itself or something else. I can just see me dropping some bucks for a new one and the same crap happens.

Your computer also recognizes the SD slot, which explains why you see two external drives. only one should work, though (since you don't have a memory card)

Are you able to listen to mp3's on your Forge?

What exactly can or can't you do?

Like I said, you don't need the Rio software to add/delete music off the player.

Speaking of the Forge, is there a limit to the size SD card you can use with it?

Negative on it playing mp3's. It goes to the message I posted earlier, "Unknown format... etc"

Then goes to the front screen where you have to pick English as your language and then shows no tracks at all. Everything looks wiped out. Plus it starts from scratch everytime.

Both drives are recognized in My Computer but they won't let me reformat it which is what it is telling me to do. It say Insert Disk. Totally screwed up.

I hardly know anything computer related that has happened past 1999 or 2000 when I switched careers which is screwing me.

All the stuff I have looked for on the internet is saying that it's a bad flaw and I'm screwed although I wonder if the people posting are just as clueless as I am about it. I'm thinking that may be the case.

1 gig. So basically with mine I have (had) 1 gig + the 256 of internal memory.

Do you live in CS?

I'll take a look at it over the weekend if you're ok with that.
