no surprise really, but the scale of what it's doing is pretty eye opening

It's bad enough I know my phone is listening. Smart TVs are just the new game in town. People who have alexa or siri should delete and rid the device from their homes. You think a TV is spying on, alexa and other devises like alexa are spying steroids technology.

My demon woke up this morning telling me he was tired. I handed him a red bull & said "come on little buddy, we've got chaos to spread"

The Three Stages of En****tification
  • Stage 1 (Good for Users): The platform offers a great, often low-cost or free service to attract as many users as possible. Users get "locked in" due to network effects or social connections (such as finding friends or content on a social network).
  • Stage 2 (Good for Business Customers): Once users are locked in, the platform shifts its focus to monetizing the audience for advertisers, merchants, or content providers. The user experience begins to degrade with ads, sponsored content, and data tracking.
  • Stage 3 (Good for Shareholders): Finally, the platform squeezes the business customers as well. It extracts nearly all the value for executives and shareholders, leaving a bloated, ad-cluttered, or low-quality product behind.
We're definitely in Stage 3 for TVs.

Opportunity cost at work.

Of course, few study economics anymore, so we get things like "Free service."

Spying aside, why are samsung tvs so ****ty? Every one of have used whether at my house or Airbnb seems to be slow and unresponsive to remote control commands.

Tech Jesus did a big breakdown of LG's surreptitious behavior last month. I thought Samsung might be better.

It wouldn't able to send the data off, but it's still spending cycles capturing all the data. That consumes power and generates heat, and none of it is beneficial for consumers, only for the company to sell ads.

It's starting to be similar to the fax problem that was happening around 20-25 years ago. People would fax their ads to known fax numbers, the receiving end was paying for the ink and paper to print their ads for them.

I don't think you can separate the two. They're slow and ****ty because apparently they're full of bloated Spyware that's always running

Are any brands clean? Somehow, I doubt it.

We have one of those Samsung The Frame art TVs. I assume turning all of this off will break that service...

I was referring to Alexa and siri specifically

Oh. I agree, don't have any Alexa products in my house. Though I will admit to being lazy and using Siri. Mostly as a timer. Probably not worth giving up privacy for that.

Guess in the end I figure the horse is already out of the barn. Unfortunately.
