A Google search says HP Office Jet Pro 9125e has the best reviews. My HP 7100 finally crapped out. It was a workhorse.

I've looked at reviews and they are all over the map.

Anyone gone thru the process and bought one recently? I know ink use is an issue.

Would you buy a laser jet? We don't print a lot, so I doubt the extra cost is worth it. Just getting ideas.

TIA

Do you need color? If not, seems like laser would be in the same range. Brother all-in-ones work for me for light use. I just hate the replacement ink game - maybe toner isn't much better but I don't think I replace it more than once every two years (again light use).

Thanks!!

Yea, I print stuff in color. Not alot, and maybe I really don't need to and maybe will reconsider.

The 9125e is rather expensive and is more for home office use. I'm retired and don't print alot. My thought is that it's built for higher capacity, so maybe it will last longer. If it lasts 8 years, the extra $150 is roundoff.

I have a Canon GX1020 MegaTank. Love it so far and have never had to replace ink.

Thanks. It's a bit deep for our cabinet. Only a few inches, but we are probably going to get one that's bigger. Our current printer is only 15" deep with paper tray.

Do Epson printers suck? They seem to be the best at ink usage/oricing?

I wouldn't personally buy another Epson. My last printer before this Canon was a Brother and I was very happy with that as well.

I have 2 9020s - looks like 9125 is just a newer version. Overall I have been pretty happy with them. They handle envelopes reasonably well, important to me, paper handling is pretty good. I do a couple large print jobs per month. Don't have a lot of jambs or issues..

Only potential negative is that HP is really leaning into the subscription instant ink model. I actually use it because if works out ok costwise for my printing habits for my businesses. I did try to pull one of the units off for a while and it gave me a bunch of issues. Enough that I just gave up and resubscribed it. Not sure if it would do that if you never signed up or not.

One of the reasons I put up with that is that I have tried a couple other brands and they have been terrible. Bought a fairly expensive Canon tank model and it was awful in pretty much every important way. Ended up just throwing it away after a year.

Don't be afraid to look around on Ebay. Both my current units came from there because I wanted to stick with the 9020 since it had been working well for me. Found low use models for good prices and have had good luck with them.

I have a Brother laser printer that's almost 11 years old now. I'm a very light user, I used to hate the ink jet cartridges always drying out. I think I need to order a new toner cartridge for the printer, it'll be the second one. But, the thing has always worked when needed and it does a good job.

Get a Brother InkVestment printer

HP software is a nightmare, and i've had too many problems with printheads drying up on Epson printers. The Brother's have been solid.

I thought laser were so cheap most people have them now?

I have all older HP laser jets, including the legendary HP LaserJet 4xxx, thing just works. I have a newer MFC color that I don't use near enough, but whenever I do, I just turn them on and they work.

But last time I did some research and this was around 2015, there was a Brother's color laser that was the market leader for home office use.

I purchased a Brother MFC-L3780CDW laser printer earlier this year and have been extremely pleased.

For light printing I'd lean laser. Toner doesn't dry out like ink does, so the printer still works when you need it after sitting for a month. A Brother color laser all-in-one is hard to beat for reliability. Just check the depth spec, because some of them run right around 15 to 16 inches. One heads-up on the HP "e" models: they're built around HP's ink subscription and genuine cartridges, which isn't a great deal if you only print now and then. Epson EcoTanks are good printers, but they make the most sense for people who print a lot.

I second the HP software being junk. We have a Brothers printer and really like it. Infrequent printer usage and it's just a B&W printer, but it always works.

I will chime in on the Brother.

I am retired and my printing needs involve light home office tasks.

I have gone through two Brother B&W laser printers in 20 years.

They don't use much toner, always work no matter how seldom I use them, don't jam, and need no maintenance.

Occasionally I think about getting one with color, but I really don't need one.

Great product in my experience.

Another vote for brother. Between reading about hp software and forced subscriptions, we went brother.

Thanks for the advice!! It was helpful. I ended up with the 9125e. The setup is difficult. And I remember when I bought the 7100 was also difficult. But that think lasted a long time and setup is a one time deal.

We will see how the ink goes. It's free for a while. This one takes used cartridges and that may make it a bit cheaper than the service, though the service didn't seem all that expensive.

Again, thanks guys.
