From recent experience, I have come to learn that the gaming community has great insight into desks, mice, etc.

I sit all day for work. Don't really like standing at a desk for work. I have some back issues as well.

Is there a chair that you think is a must get for comfort and support to be used for desk work? Bonus would be one that you can try out rather than just purchase online.

I've had a Steelcase Series 2 the last few years. I like it fine, but could've used more padding on the armrests and for the butt.

Office chairs are weird, because this doesn't look comfortable at all. I don't doubt that it is though.

$2200 for an office chair is bananas. I would hope they're able to handle warranty issues for that price...

My experience:

Good - Steelcase Leap - have one at home, use for my home PC and working at home. It's fine - don't ever notice it.

Better - Herman Miller Aeron - used one for most of a decade at last job. There's a reason it's the standard - great chair.

Best - We sprung for the Herman Miller Embody for our new offices. They are expensive but I've found them worth it. Most comfortable work chair I've used.

It was about $1000 less when I bought it (2020), but I understand your hesitation. Even at $1200 it was a tough pill to swallow. But I'm glad I did.

I'm a keyboard-presser, so I spend more time in my office chair than my vehicle and my bed put together. Just like everyone should get the best mattress, if you sit in your chair a lot you should have a great chair.

Some people buy a new vehicle every few years and pay 80k+ for it. I get a new vehicle every 15 years and pay less than 40k. It just depends on what you value.

I ended up picking a Leap V2 over the Aeron I walked in to buy. Different strokes, but I was dead set on the Aeron until I tried out the V2.

Anything with a foam seat AND pocket springs has been my go to for years. They are basically mini recliner chairs. I prefer breathable cloth material over leather/pleather. You can get a nice big & tall version for 75-150 ish. I have spent 12hr work days sitting in this all day and the only barely sore part was the underside of my thighs after that. That speaks volumes to how much support you're getting. 1 recommendation is buy a set of large upgraded roller blade style casters. So much better than any stock caster even from chairs costing hundreds. I have this exact set on my chair.

The best is gonna be a Lifeform chair from Relax the Back. Will set you back $2-5k depending on model and options though.

I've had mine probably around 4 years and the contoured bottom and memory foam make sitting all day at a desk a pleasure.

Yes, this is what I have. They are awesome.

Main thing about the Aeron I love is that my fat arse doesn't get sweated up from heat via fabric/leather but I would not mind trying out the embody. I'm just afraid the heat would be an issue during hours long sessions of remote working or gaming.

I've tried the Aeron, Embody and the Gesture. I spent time sitting in all of them and sat in them while working. The Gesture for me is hands down a lot better than the others. I've used it for about 8 years now and it's still working well.

I have historically sat all day as well. During a recent battle through 5 herniated discs one of the things my back doctor specifically recommended was making my employer get me an adjustable standing desk at work.

At first I stood only a few minutes a day after I first got it and when my back was still pretty ginger. Over time I have worked up to some days standing more than I sit. Basically I stand until my back starts to get a bit tight, then I sit, then stand etc. Some days I will stand or sit continuously for 4-6 hours. Other times I may go up or down every 45 minutes throughout the day.

Obviously I have no idea what you are going through back wise and hope you heal, but for me specifically, a standing desk has really helped me keep my back stronger after all my physical therapy etc.

On the chair front I have some type of 24 hour chair made for 911 dispatcher type work. Not sure the manufacturer but its very adjustable and ergonomic and pretty heavy duty since its meant to be sat in by multiple folks continuously on a 24/7 basis.

I'm a big fan of their chairs. I needed an ergonomic chair at work years ago and our HR folks ordered one of these for me and I loved it. I bought another one for my home office. They aren't cheap…but I'd say they're worth it.

I have an aeron, and it's in the spare bedroom with boxes stacked on the seat.

If you have a leaner budget ($500-$600) give the Hon Ignition 2.0 a look. I've had mine for 3 years so far and it's been very comfortable all day every day. Still looks new.

I got a Herman Miller Embody free 4-5 years ago and love it.

I've had Aerons in several offices and bought a Sayl for the home office a few years ago. Still super supportive and comfortable for half the price new.

I recently bought the Secretlab chair and so far I love it. The product is well built, solid and feels oversized. I'm 6'3" 250lb. The chair felt more firm than I expected. I like the adjustments on it and haven't had any issues yet.

I used to have back issues years ago…cancelled a couple of trips from lifting a light suit case the wrong way. Squats and dead lifts, which I always hated, fixed my issues and I haven't had problems since. Just building up my core was the solution to ky back problems

When I first got my SecretLab chair I was concerned it would be too firm, but I love that chair. I either got used to it or it broke in, likely a little of both.
