Anyone pick this up to play yet? I miss my old EQ raiding days. Been watching Cohh play it some and like the changes they made to make it a more solo experience. Basically a built in tri box without all the multi screen hoops.

Had my Grandmaster Alchemist Shaman on Fennin Ro. Was in the top 5 server shaman for raiding all the way through Epic 2.0 before dropping off. Was in the Talons of Ferocity guild for raiding at the end. Hecude Poison'Blood was his name. Best class in the game imo with pretty much unlimited mana potential for healing and dps to outlast clerics and druids with the right clickables and canibalise. Best slows and magic debuffs and some of the best raid buffs. Used to dual box with a guild mates characters to farm hugh end spell scroll runes and mats and they used mine while i was offline too.

Had a roommate back in the day that was way into EQ. Much to the detriment of his social life. Anyway I picked this up for ****s and giggles. I will say the clunky gameplay and janky graphics are scratching at a nostalgic itch for me.

I used to be really into EQ into Planes of Power. I had a ogre shaman 65, torpor, with epic. A neighbor of mine used to play even more than me and befriended a guy in Spirit of Tunare (guild) on The Rathe, one of the top raiding guilds at the time. He convinced me that the guy was quitting the game, so set up a shop in the auction house place where you could just leave your character on and told me to buy all of his stuff from him that wasn't bound. So I did, a fungi tunic, some other things.

Came back a few days later and I was banned. I guess the OG player guy reported his stuff missing and they accused me of hacking his account and cleaning it out.

Haven't played a day since. I was super disappointed the day of an for a bit afterwards since I had so much fun, but didnt feel like starting over given how difficult it was to level in that game, but Im glad it gave me time back in RL.

I'm playing it on Qeynos! They added monk flying kick animations to all races, which is wonderful.

I want to give it a shot but I also don't want to get back into EQ. I lost way too much time to EQ and EQ2 back in the day

This is a pass for me. As mentioned I already wasted too much time on evercrack 1 and 2. Axtually started eq on launch day and what a mess that was! It was a unique experience though.

Ah Everquest. Almost got me kicked out of A&M. Then Everquest 2 did not great things for my marriage...quit around when my first kid was born. Vowed to not do mmorpgs until they were out of the house and I was maybe retired. I got like 5 years to go.

I'm pretty sure my wife would just leave if I played Ultima Online or COD-WAW as much as I used to...

I watched some videos on it and think it has a lot of potential. With the triple class system it looks like you can solo most of the content if you want to but there are some advantages to grouping as well (individual loot so if you drop a named mob everyone gets loot without having to divide it, so grouping slows exp but increases loot. You can also spawn your own instances of zones so you don't have to wait for calls to open).

I'll probably give it a try in a week or two. If anyone starts playing post what server you are on.

Brings back memories, tempting, but I think I will leave EQ as a memory. Really cannot imagine the time sink at this point in life.

I went ahead and jumped back in (I'm on the Qeynos server). It's a bit of an enigma of a game. The hardcore players are already max level and complaining about things and the players who are new to EQ are completely lost just trying to understand class combinations and how to work with the UI. I only played a little and never hit max level so it's a good fit for me but I understand why some people don't like it. It's also not completely flushed out and they are making changes as they go which rubs some people the wrong way.

Been messing around with it for the past week or so. Enigma is a great description. This almost feels like a different game altogether from the original. Once you get the UI situated, it's actually a fun walk down memory lane, but not sure it has any staying power. There are no carrots or sticks to keep a player on the hamster wheel that most MMOs are known for. Your character can get incredibly strong to solo any content. Gear is so readily available that I have had higher level passersby just offload nice gear onto my low level character just for them to create bag space. From what I can tell, there is no penalty for dying. I can see players getting bored with it in a month or two.

Kunark should be coming in winter sometime with all new revamps and epic 1.0's. Depending on how it goes, they want to launch even more after.

No death penalty?! That was a lot of what made EQ the hard game it was- having to corpse run was always tense.

And how are cleric supposed to make plat if you don't need exp rez anymore!

Haven't truly experienced Everquest unless you've a corpse run all the way to Unrest...then get trained as soon as you zone in.

Or fallen into the invisible hole in Befallen and be like eff it, guess I am starting over.

Getting new spells, die doing something dumb and losing the level!!

Today's generation is so soft!

That is nothing compared to getting wiped zoning into plane of fear or hate- talk about painful CR when you have to call in other guilds to help!

Deep Seb CR's were very difficult as well. One of the main reasons I ended up playing rog main was the thrill of sneaking by hordes of frogloks to drag bodies.

Got my first epic because that happened in fear or hate. My little guild wiped. The big guild we got to save us did not need the epic drop, so they let me have it.

It's pretty much a single player game but I am here for it. I only ever made it to low 20s in original eq before jumping back in around 2009 but by then it was a completely different game (the newbee quest armor by then was better than PoH or PoF gear). So being able to explore all the zones I never got a chance to see has been pretty fun.

Be 15 year old me. Level 32 monk trying to run through Overthere. Killed by giant then trained multiple times trying to corpse run. Corpse and gear rot.
Kids have no idea these days.

Or when you got a less experienced friend killed doing something they shouldn't be doing.

RL Friend that got me into eq and helped me early on, showed me a money making scheme to take my ranger from east commons down to inthehole? And ask to loot a mug/stien that qaurds dropped when high levels camped there. Then You could sell the stien for some quest.

I got good at it and avoiding mobs. Took a eq friend one night. They died horribly down there. Had to work at going back down to get their corpse and stuff. Took a while. Ironically, stood up the RL friend for a movie or something and he got pissed I would do that to help an eq friend.

Shows how weird the dynamics of the EQ world were. Had friends all of the world there, that for a time at least were pretty good friends.

Definitely the faction quest for the SoulFire / Torrid Corruptor / Fiery Avenger driving that market. You need hundreds for the first faction check turn in.

Man, I was in a big time raiding guild from Kunark through Sleeper before quitting, coming back briefly during I think SoL and then finally getting off the juice. I'd always wished they had a single player version so I could explore and see stuff instead of just heads down healing folks (I was a cleric) so this is like a dream come true…

I'm up to 38 clr/ran/enc. Currently farming LGuk undead side mostly in a T3 solo instance. Love being able to create my own instance. I can't wait for kunark and being able to do no respawn runs down into seb and com etc. so many great memories from Kunark!

I played at launch and still remember the awe going through high pass for the first time as a dwarf, long way from butcherblock! That was where I first saw a character with a last name. Remember farming Minotaurs for axes and selling them to newbie elves before they got into crushbone. I dont remember if I ever even saw the full dungeons that I've already been able to play through with the no respawn instances because they were so swarmy and/or you had all the different camps so no one was actually running whole dungeons.

My first memory, aside from dying in Crushbone, was loading up on minotaur axes in the Steamfont mountains then running my bard to the ogre swamps to sell them. Made good plat but it was scary for a wood elf bard and trying to get a bind was rough.

I am wondering about the end game loop for this game. I got my original trio dru/war/brd to 50. Then I swapped war for pal and leveled from 10 to 20, then swapped pal for monk and working on getting it from 10 to 20. Basically I am just grinding AAs because they are easier to earn at low level. I have a feeling that is a better use of my time than doing the same raids over and over again for loot that won't be that great once kunark drops in the next few months.

I honestly hope there isn't an end game loop lol

Let me experience it, release the next expansion and let me experience that! Let me see the stuff I missed over the last 24 years without making me completely lose my life to it!

Seems like the loop now is doing PoSky over and over to unlock primary classes. Apparently revamped mistmoore drops on Tuesday so it will be interesting to see what gear gets added and how it will compare to legacy plane gear.

Lol, ya, old original eq was hard mode grind gaming. I have so many brain cells still dedicated to random ass knowledge from the game 20+ years ago its unreal. It and Diablo 2 / D2 LOD probably have half on my super long term memory locked down with random knowledge on gear, quests, tricks, ect.

I remember camping one of the cleric epic 1.0 weapon turn mobs for 50hrs straight to get my turnin done for just ****s and giggles to cross that epic off the list. That ******* despawns immediately after the first turn in to him from anyone and then would randomly respawn in the next 72hrs. Some of those quest line mobs were brutal.

Same for the cloak needed for the mage 1.0. I ran around spamming my macro for my pet to attack any placeholder mob to spawn the named who "can" drop the cloak. Gave up after 2 days straight of no drop and just bought the turnin from another player who got the drop randomly but wasn't a mage for like 10k platinum.

Good times lol

One thing that is nice is since loot is individual and not shared more people are willing to let you tag along even if you are dead weight if they have room in the raid. This morning I got into a pick up raid that was clearing plane of hate at difficultly 4 and pretty much completed my plane armor load out at +4.

Gonna need to kill naggy a lot for bags to hold all that loot lol

I got to 48 yesterday and did a few of the raids and went into Hate to start getting my purple armor. Good times

Pretty sure i saw Cazic-Thule drops really nice 100% giant boxes and is easily farmable too.
