I bought it two years ago when it launched and it got its hooks in me BAD. Well, my kids are older now and we have a family server going.

Anyone else hopping back on now that 1.0 is released? I gotta say I like the additions and changes they made. Also the new map is HUGE. Without a decent flying mount it'll takes forever to fully explore it all.

Technically games are all-time wasters, but some for more than others.

There's no compelling story or really anything in this game. It's a pure."kill this many of this type, collect this many of that type" of game that just goes on and on. Even worse, unless they changed it, the "pals" are grossly oversized. At release, you were 'x' size and they're all "x times 50" size. So bad that they're constantly a view obstructor and terrain inhibitor.

There's no compelling story, there's no cool combat, there's no major bosses and challenges of note…. Not even building your little village or whatever is cool. Playing a strategy, management or Vallheim clone will give you 500x more redeeming value,

And yes, it's a "12 year old girl game".

I think you missed the point of what I was saying regarding that. If you're going to play a game that is like Pal World, the homebase build concept is very rudimentary and silly in Pal World. If you're going to play an "explore and advance while collecting" style game, you're better off playing a Valheim or Valheim clone where at least you have advanced building and base capabilities to give you more satisfaction to your collecting…. Better graphics, concepts like sailing, dungeons, etc.

Again, Pal World is a basic 12 year old girl game.

Pokemon' has been popular since it came out, and even the card thing is a huge business. I get it. You're right, people like different stuff. Glad you like it. Not for me, I gave my opinion and explanation as to why.

To answer the OP and not be an insufferable ass, I have been jumping back in to try 1.0. Definitely a lot of quality of life changes and much more polished from the initial early access. The Pal AI is much better for pathing and working.

My personal experience with survival games is one where I never really play them to completion. I usually get about halfway through before I move on to something else.

Pal World is 'technically' a survival game, but it's really not an accurate label because :

(1) you don't even have to have a base until far into the game
(2) as long as you do your basic simple things, your pal's do all your base management and automated tasks
(3) the pals defend against the pals

So if anyone's reading this and thinking it's a true survival game to where the days are intense because at night there's a real risk of death and major destruction - no, it's a very, very, very lose survival game. As I said in my original explanation - this is an 'explore and collect' game. Kill this many of this, find all the markers, the end. You literally start avoiding areas and monsters because you've already killed enough of them, etc. It's a simple task time waster.

I recently caved and got Project Zomboid and in alllllll this time, never once realized it was Hardcore mode baked into the very code. F that. Refunded immediately. Even the "Save" mods for it were super jank and just decided not worth my time. Not sure if not playing HC mode goes against the grain of actual survival games but I cannot stand it.

Also, yes. Same as you either way. I don't like short games, never complete long games. Quite the conundrum I have....

Been playing this one on the steamdeck when I have some time. I really enjoyed it in early access and am blown away by all of the significant QoL updates they have made.

Really happy coming back to it. I'm glad they are having the success they are having.

The thing I love about this game and yes, it is absolutely a time waster but there's always one more thing to do. Oh I finally crafted that new assembly line, great, oh wait now I need to go do these things in order to make this thing.

I am sure once I get to the game I will be bored because there's probably nothing to do. But the Journey there will be a lot of fun.

With that said..4 of us are playing on a new save and it's been super fun. Just hit level 48 and enjoying just cruising around the world capturing Pals.

Exactly. That was the idiotic comment I was pushing back on. I don't have any issues with people not liking certain games. But the 12-year-old girl comment? What the hell does that even mean? It's a survival game where you capture pals, equip them with machine guns, and join them in gun battles against other pals. In NO way is that a game marketed to 12-year-old girls. It's just a hilariously idiotic comment.

So totally tacky and millennial moment tonight:

Was flying around on my new Suzaku mount (the best mid game mount to fly with, IMO) was just cruising the skies of the game and starting humming the Neverending Story theme song to myself. This game is HUGE and absolute beautifully designed graphically..

Haters just means it's doing well, and it is crushing it right now.

Thanks to this thread, I logged into Steam to see it on the front page of Store.

It is not my art style and I still have too much Crimson Desert left so I didn't buy it today.

But it is on the "come back to later" list.
