I have a Bambu PS2 with an AMS 2 spooler. I love this thing. Any other 3D printers out there?

So far:

Laptop stand
Can dispensers
Qtip dispenser
Coffee cup shelves
Figit toys
Mixer attachment holders
Tape dispenser that automatically cuts tape
IKEA skadis boards and shelves and hooks.
Cord wrap/holder for kitchenaide mixer

I want to get into to making some electronics and robotics. What are you making?

Invest the time in teaching yourself how to use CAD software. Onshape or Fusion360 or both are good options (and free).

You'll get a lot more out of it once you can design / edit your own parts.

I use FreeCAD. I just finished a project today that required a lot of printing.

My wife didn't like opening her F150's tailgate to plug things into the 7.2kw ProPower outlet.

I'm going to dump a bunch of pics then edit to explain them.

I started planning this at the beginning of the year and purchased a replacement power panel so I could take it apart and have it at my desk while I reverse engineered a new cover.

Having a spare also means I can swap it back if there are any warranty claims.

Here is a pic of the outlet box viewed looking up at it from under the bed, just after of the wheel well.

This pick shows the back of the bumper where I decided to mount the L14-30 outlet.

And here is a pic of a guide I printed for my hole saw since the center bit in the hole saw wasn't going into metal and I was afraid of the edge of the hole saw getting a bite of metal and losing control of it and gouging up the bumper.

Here's a pic of the L14-30 outlet. It basically looks OEM when closed.

Here is the backside as installed.

This sleeve goes over the backside of the outlet so none of the terminals are exposed. It also keeps most of the water and dust off the back of the outlet.

Now we start getting into the fun part. I designed a new cover for the outlet box to bring a new wire into the box.

This is an earlier version in white so the details are a bit easier to see.

I made the new box 10mm deeper to accommodate some wago connectors inside. These snap in but are a bit tighter than I like.

This is the 240v 30A receptacle on the circuit board inside the outlet box.

And here is the plug that goes in it. I was able to find that plug on Mouser and built a custom connector to feed the wago connectors since the original connector wire were too short to reach.

This next pic is a bit embarrassing but it shows the new box wired up before I screwed it shut. I really wish I had the wago connectors located differently so I could make the wiring a bit cleaner but this is a 15 hour print and I didn't want to wait another day for a tweak that may still not provide much improvement.

And here is the box installed in the truck. It barely fits through the mounting hole in the bed so there is still lots of room for improvement.

Ok here is another fun one we finished last weekend but has been in the works for about a month. The wife saw that people were using 5" PVC fense post sleeves to hold the dump hoses on their RVs and wanted me to print end caps for them. With a little AI help I generated an image to print on the sliding door.

We had some extra tube so she asked me to print another cover so she could have a place to store doggy poo bags.

These are printed on an H2D with dual extruders making dual color prints much faster than on single head printers.

Not very exciting but I printed new hinge bushing thingies for my 16 year old garbage can last month.

While showing RV projects, this is a bit sexier. Here is an electronics box that housed a 12-28v converter to power the starlink on my travel trailer.

Ok. I did this last weekend while printing the outlet sleeve for the F150. It's a pattern template for a friend who is into leather carving. The cross and flower pattern are typically used for bible covers. The pattern is raised .24mm above the surface of the plate so he can press a light pattern into wet leather so he has something he can follow when carving.

Have printed some Gridfinity/designed trays in Fusion360. In the process of printing a multiboard wall.

1 easy tip, make use of chatgpt or similar ai tools to create a base model before you open it for detail edits in 3d model software. Saves me a bunch of time, especially with simple items you can describe exactly. I have gotten models at like 95% complete from a few mins of prompt work.

Trying to decide right now about moving on from my A1 Mini to a P2S or a X2D. Any of yall have thoughts?

I don't think you'll be disappointed with the X2D. Having an extra nozzle makes multi color prints much faster than on the P2S.

Take a look at the filaments you may want to print. Since the two models you listed don't have heated chambers, you're counting on the bed and extruder to heat your chamber and your results with ABS or ASA may be inconsistent.

I have the P2S but I'm a noob and have only had it for a couple weeks. No complaints. Definitely get an AMS.

I have a P1S and an H2S and absolutely love both. My last print was an airless basketball using SainSmart PEBA filament.

What is the aftermarket on printers like? My A1 Mini is busted after a bad clog that needs the heating element replaced. I've already done it once, but it clogged again and I think I'm ready to just move on. I do have a working AMS Lite, though. I was wondering if I could get a couple hundred dollars for both to defray the cost of the next one. It'd probably have to be local because I got rid of the box a while back. Still, the whole thing is about 18 months old and probably has life for someone interested in a project.

I am very new to 3d printing. This is something my son wanted to get into but I am not super tech savvy.

Have a Flashforge Adventurer 5.0. I am struggling to get going on printing objects. Can anyone recommend any sites that can walk me through (on a very elementary level) the process on how to get started with 3d printing and that I could use for reference moving forward?

I'm a noob as well. I had Claude create a Word doc summary of all the filaments, uses, temps, etc... and found it very helpful. I printed it out and have it by my printer for reference. I have an ongoing session with it for 3D printing and find it very helpful because it knows my printer and equipment and ongoing issues and interests.

Super obvious answer but anyway...

My Bambu (PS2) app on my phone links to Maker's World I think and I just find something that looks cool and hit the print button and it walks me through it. Does yours have something similar?

Interested in other people's responses as well.

Should be as simple as downloading a model, loading the model in its slicer software, matching the filament you're using in the slicer, (should be using PLA or PETG or their non-engineering filament variants. Matte, HF etc), and then sending to the printer to print.

I did something similar but had ChatGPT help in creating a spreadsheet that has an initial tab where I select which of my printers I'm using, which nozzle I have installed, which build plate I'm using, and what filament I'm using (brand and type). It then references my "data" tab and provides me with the settings for my nozzle, fans, build plate, etc. and for the filament.

I save the presets to make it quicker when coming back to it. If I see a repeatable issue (stringing as an example), I give the feedback and tweak the settings (haven't had to do this much but did with Elegoo PETG Pro.

Going to be honest, at this point I don't see much point in buying a non bambu printer for most consumer uses. They are that far ahead of the game.

Not on everything. They have reliability down and ease of use, but their advanced multi material is either limited to two hotends (X2D, H2D) or on a very expensive machine (H2C). Can use an AMS, but filament changes take a long time and waste a lot of filament.

Snapmaker U1 uses the same slicer software, looks to get the same quality of print in similar speeds for single filament prints, and gets up to a 3-4x reduction in print time and a 80+% reduction in filament waste by changing the tool head. Build quality looks a bit worse and advanced materials isn't well supported out of the box, but I doubt I'll ever print ABS/ASA/Nylon.

Already have a P1S and a P2S, but multi-material can be brutally long.

Dammit, I'm hooked. This rabbit hole has sucked me in.

Not a bad hobby expense-wise when you consider other things, e.g., golf, racing, guns, but wife annoyance factor is off the charts.

Got a filament dryer ordered. Next project is a windmill type gizmo that I can put near my garden to scare off pests. But my PETG needs drying. I have it in the AMS, but the other spools in there are PLA so I can't use high temp.

I have no experience with others, but it's a great printer. I've done everything so far from my phone app.

If you're printing parts for outside use, ASA is king. Don't restrict your print utility because of filament selection.

If I had to limit myself to 1 filament, it would be ASA because it's excellent outdoors and good indoors and gives consistent prints. If I had only 2 filaments I would add PETG for interior prints. Third on my list would be PA12.

The caveat for me is that I don't print pretty things. I really want a 1:100 scale model of starship but I'm not currently willing to put 200 hours on my printer for that right now.

I print anything that goes outside in ASA. Great filament but definitely need a good filter/filtration system when printing it.

I added an external activated charcoal filter on my printer exhaust and haven't given it much thought since.

Overwhelming majority of my prints are functional, non-load prints that are used indoors/away from UV and excessive temps. Garage is the hottest place it will be and doesn't get above 90F.

Have some PETG prints in a shaded shed so we'll see how they hold up. ASA is overkill for most of what I print. Was asking about that printer for my brother, who will use it similarly/has a young kid and if he needs a more durable print he can either buy the hood or use my P2S.

Yeah, I added the filters from VoxelPLA.com and haven't been as concerned about it. Definitely helped a lot.

Would agree to a point. Bambu and Prusa are the only consumer printers I would buy. Anything cheaper and it will probably cost you more in the long run unless you are very experienced.

Admittedly I'm in the Prusa ecosystem since their mk3 and prefer their open source ethos although that has closed up a bit on their newer printers.

I used to be a huge 3D printing nerd, even built a Voron v2.4 but love how the Mk4s/CoreOne/XL just work…. I have a 2year old so I don't have nearly the time I used to. Saves me time for tinkering and prototyping things I have fun with as well as playing with my son.

I'm self taught as well on FreeCAD. I don't have a lot of recent CAD experience so I don't have Catia, or Solidworks, Fusion, etc to compare it to or I'm sure I would be saying why don't they do it like…..

I'm no expert but I learned quite a bit with my last project. I love parametric models where you can change a dimension in a sketch or spreadsheet and it will update the model accordingly.
