Played in the playtest and it was extremely fun. Pre-ordered the Deluxe version and will be there Day 1 for launch. Always been a fan of Bungie's gunplay, and I'm glad Bungie is focusing back on PvP again because it scratches an itch that was kind of missing ever since they focused on Destiny.

Very cool lore, aesthetic, gameplay, and soundtrack. Deep progression and potential end-game Raid setup. High risk stakes (if you want them).

Really feels like this is the next evolution of the PvP shooter and Bungie is set to grab themselves a nice space of the market.

Definitely recommend people try it out whenever they announced the open playtest in the next few weeks.

Man, I remember playing the OG games at my friends house who had Mac and I had PC.

Bungie used to make a lot of really fun games. Myth: The Fallen Lords was ridiculously fun too.

Bungie has been absolute **** for the last good while and not just games wise but even to their devs (This game being one of the very bad ones last year). Not a single game of theirs deserves a pre-order anymore. Give it a few days post release before making any purchase decisions with them unless there is a long open beta you got to play in which they will never do anymore, only short term windows with limited players and test scope.

The art style looks cool and I'm all for more extraction shooters, but I'm gonna wait and see. This is just all around bad timing with Arc Raiders. I was disappointed with how Destiny went.

I've played the game. It is not "absolute ****" despite the campaign online that's been thrown against it after the reveal. In fact, this is the best MP game I've probably played in a decade and reignited my love for the genre which I loved a lot more during the 360/PS3 era.

But I agree, no need to pre order if you haven't played it. There will be an open playtest in a few weeks before launch. I pre-ordered it based on my experience with the game.

I think it's actually pretty good timing since Arc Raiders released last fall. There will be some fans of that game that were introduced to the extraction shooter genre and may want to play something different now that Arc has been out for a while.

Definitely very different games, Marathon is more of a hardcore/intense PvP game with also some challenging PvE elements, whereas Arc is more of a collaborate PvE game with light PvP. Also, the obvious differences are that Marathon is first person and Arc is third person. So I think there's plenty of room for both to be successful.

I loved Destiny but fell off of it because it's mostly a PvE game and the grind got too much for my tastes and they did a very poor job of onboarding players into all the various expansions. I will likely come back to Destiny again but will need a major revamp.

What's cool about Marathon is that it allows Bungie to focus on a PvP title again where you don't have all the baggage that Destiny has. A fresh slate. They will also do seasonable wipes to level the playing field again and keep the ecosystem balanced. Should allow Bungie to be able to release content on a more regular cadence (maps, runner shells) without having to spend an enormous amount of resources on an expansion like Destiny, and it keeps the playerbase coming back to something that's familiar rather than daunting and confusing.

I play it back in the Mac days while I was in HS. I thought it had better game play than Doom/Quake 1.

I have an old Marathon poster at my parents house, I need to see if that thing is worth anything.

Hopeful they addressed the myriad criticisms from the playtest last year that led to the delay. It did not show well

Watched the peanut play it the other day and it looked completely different than I remember the play test. Seems like they took the criticism to heart

It looks different because they stole all of their art assets in the original version before they got caught. They had to pay off the designer they were stolen from and change everything.

This is false

They did not steal ALL the art, it was some small portion of assets by one employee that is no longer at Bungie.

Bungie recognized this, investigated, reached out to the original artist, and paid them to keep the art in the game.

I'm not sure why this is still being blown up into way bigger of a deal than it is. Not hard to imagine how one rogue employee could fly under the radar and cause this situation

The more important thing is Bungie did the right thing and the artist is now satisfied with their agreement.

The changes to the current look of the game are due to finalizing artistic passes on assets and lighting and have nothing to do with that stolen art situation since obviously those assets are still actually in the game.

Stop spreading fud

And it happened to them twice using stolen assets in Destiny. I guess they are just a really unlucky company.

While I don't have any proof, I have been in this business long enough to view the "rogue employee" narrative with hefty skepticism. Is it possible? I suppose. Is it likely? I find it difficult to believe.

The storyline and total conversion scenarios are why I played the original Marathon series. Sounds like this one has neither

This game actually has a ton of lore, and it's probably expanded greatly from the original. The way it is presented is even similar (through terminals and other codex drops you get as you play the game).

Only difference is the venue, as this is a multiplayer based game but after playing the beta it almost has single player type feels. You can squad up or go it alone, but each time you play you have an objective to find hidden loot and get out. Almost like a rogue-like campaign where there are enemy players also participating. It's pretty cool
