Any active MMO players?

Still enjoy playing MMOs, most recently been spending some time in WoW and ESO, but I find my interest wanes after a while not having a good active guild to be a part of. I have tried joining a few guilds randomly, but it is a crap shoot if they last or are worth staying in.

Do any Aggie gamers here still actively play any MMOs and have a guild they enjoy that might be open to new members?

I tend to get too addicted then it effects my sleep and exercise schedule so I avoid them. Played EQ1, WoW, ESO, EQ2, city of heroes/villains, then back to EQ1 legacy server during COVID.

Good luck though hope you find a good group!

Same here. I played wayyy too much EQ1 (definitely hurt my grades at A&M) and EQ2 (wife was getting pissed) in my day. Once you're in a good raiding guild it's hard to do it casually. I quit for good once kids came into the picture.

Always said I'd be back with a vengeance when I retire!

I put over 1,000 hours into New World and really loved the game, but they couldn't do enough to keep a consistent player base. Wars were fun, but only for a few companies and ended up feeling more like a job than fun. Still one of my favorite multiplayer games, but I've moved on to other games.

I play Return of Reckoning when I have time. It's a private server, free Warhammer Online game from back in 2008.

Player Base is strong enough and good RvR/PvP

Mostly an ESO player over the years but the management has been pissing me off last year or so and have more or less dropped it. Have dabbled in Fallout 76 some and was just thinking about picking it back up.

I played it a bit but it never really hooked me.

Yeah, I played a quite a bit awhile back, mainly solo dwarven guardian.

I've been playing Turtle WoW. I treat it like a solo player game since I only like doing the hardcore challenge and I don't trust anyone.

I was hooked on Path of Exile but thank goodness that addiction ended.

Before that it was GW2 which was fun but I got tired of it because I only enjoyed the WvW part and they had quit updating it.

For those looking for a nostalgia kick with an extra twist, the fairly new Everquest custom server The Heroes Journey is great fun. Classic EQ with multi-classing! Be a MAG/NEC/BST and run with three pets, or be a PAL/BER/MNK to swing your sword like 20 times/second, healing yourself with each hit. It's currently in the third expansion (Luclin).

I play ESO and wouldn't mind creating an all purpose guild from scratch for OTW bosses, group dungeons, trials, etc. I've tried joining random guilds but the level of engagement hasn't been super rewarding. Would rather have a smaller, more closely knit group. If you're interested in starting one, let me know.

If you ever get a wild hair to team up on some dungeon runs, let me know. I'm getting close to, or right at, being leveled enough for vet dungeons and trials. I hate running with randos.

I had some gaming buddies who were die hard DAoC players get me on the Return of Reckoning server when covid hit back in 2020 and it was an absolute blast for about 6 months. The RvR/PvP was a ton of fun. Glad to see it's still going strong.

I play WoW and FFXIV regularly. Whichever I'm enjoying at the moment, though not recruiting new players for the time being.

It is nice to know we still exist though

I've tried a couple in the last 10 years, but quickly put them down because nothing truly captures the magic of WoW, circa 2005-2007.

Also, I work all day. The last thing I want to do in my evenings is farm or do dailies just to keep up with the community.

DAoC is still the most fun I've ever had with video games, probably because it came out right when I was prime gaming age as a kid (15/16). I've never been interested in trying any of the previous attempts to revive it or start private servers, but I'm sure it'll feel terrible compared to modern gaming. Don't need to ruin the nostalgia I have for that.

I tried it a year or 2 ago. It feels absolutely terrible. Unplayable imo.

And I agree with you. It is at the pinnacle. Game was great and I was prime gaming age, as well.

I still curse the guy that showed me vanilla WoW at A&M. So many hours wasted.

Did anyone play Ultima Online? Who didn't switch to EQ when it came out besides me… I stopped playing in 03 when I graduated high school. Played WoW a little first two years of A&M but never got super back into it.

I played UO starting in 1997 and kept playing until the Star Wars Galaxies beta in 2002. I went back to it a few years ago on one of the player run servers and would still be up for playing if anyone else wants to give it a shot.

Right now I am in the Stars Reach pre-alpha and have high hopes for that game in the long run.

Played a bunch over the years. Spent most of my mmo time with EQ way back until scars of velious. Played vanilla wow a ton but quit before burning crusade. Played swtor a bunch off and on. Played gw2 a bunch.

Currently back with wow the last few years. I played the last half of BFA and the first season of shadowlands. Skipped shadowlands season 2 and 3 and all of dragonflight. Back with the war within and season 2 starts Tuesday. Basically only heroic raid for aotc and keystone hero and portals are my main seasonal goals. I tried mythic raiding in shadowlands and burned out halfway through the season. I play all 3 roles in end game content pretty regularly heal, tank, dps. Keeps things interesting.

I can always come back to wow because the combat is so fluid and responsive and fun and engaging and no other mmo has really replicated it over the years. Plus 20 years worth of content and all the collectibles and achievements.

The only MMO I ever played (and that may be the wrong term for it) was Battlefield 1943 on my Xbox 360. 4(?) different maps that were not ginormous. It was a basic Americans vs Japs WWII game trying to take some islands in the Pacific. Anything beyond that scale and complexity quickly lost me because it was simply too much for me to want to mess with.

How do you find the player run servers and a copy of the game?

Look up UO Outlands or UO Forever. Both have the executables available when you sign up. They are much better maintained than the official UO servers and are constantly being updated.

Oh yeah I also played Planetside a good bit, that had some incredibly fun moments.
