I am old and I don't have an idea of what's going on.

I have a four year old LG tv. TV Signal comes in to the Spectrum cable box. Then it goes to Onkyo receiver. Then to HDMI port on LG TV.

Suddenly the TV displays HD Content Protection Is Compromised and the screen goes dark. Says no signal.

I have tried using different HDMI ports on the TV. No help.

I have tried hooking up the TV directly to the cable box. TV displays the same message.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

HDCP chip gone bad in cable box or tv maby? Does it work with a different hdmi cable either directly or through receiver? Does it work on other tvs with direct connection to box? Does any other hdmi device work on the tv playing protected content like Netflix?

I tried different cables.

I don't have any other HDMI devices connected.

I rebooted the cable box and it's working at the moment.

You may be onto something about the cable box or the chip in the TV. Thank you.

Try a different tv
If you don't have one

Buy a new TV

Plug it in see if it works.
You can always return it particularly if you get one from Costco or Sam's

If it does then the TV is bad.

Since covid you're not going to get high quality manufacturing on TVs buy one expecting it to go bad every 3 to 4 years.

I've got TVs from 2004 and 2014 that still work great.

I bought three TVs from Best buy to hang up outside

All three were bad. Well one didn't come. One the screen was cracked on opening. Won the screen the lights were out. Brand new

The fourth one was a Roku and it worked pretty good. I like that one

Circumvent the receiver and see if it works. Then use a Roku or something and circumvent the cable box to see if it works.

I circumvented the receiver and still had the problem. I don't have another TV or roku.

I rebooted the cable box and it worked until I turned it off to go watch the Super Bowl.

I just got home and turned it on, and it's still working.

If it happens again, I'll begin by replacing the cable box and go from there.

Thank you all for the helpful replies. I appreciate it.

TV's often have the HDMI (controller board) on them go out.

But to test :

1. If you have a laptop, use HDMI cable from it to TV... get a picture?

2. If you have a PC monitor, take it to receiver, plug in in. get a picture?

In some cases, receivers quits spitting out signal to TV despite sending audio...

Also, TV's have multiple HDMI inputs MOST of the time... try a different port in case it is TV but the whole contol board inside isn't bad.

Use basic troubleshooting, and check more than once for consistency... as 'flaky' is hard to troubleshoot unless it's consistently broken.

Thanks, yes, I have had the HDMI chip go out on my Onkyo receiver three times, so I'm pretty familiar with what that looks like.

I incorrectly stated what the displayed message was. It was this:

HD Content Protection Is Compromised.

As I said, I rebooted the cable box and it's working, but we shall see.

Thanks for responding.
