I am planning on buying a gaming laptop for my nephew. The range I intend on spending is around $1500 to $1600. What are some good ones that have at RTX4070?

Here is my main question for every one considering this (because I own one): if he can't keep it plugged in then they suck. Battery life is atrocious.

If he's going to keep it plugged in, is there some other reason why you wouldn't just get him a desktop? I assume he will be taking it with him to friends or something?

I'm buying it so he can do his courses as well as gaming. His has autism so you know how much they love electronics. Also it'll be easier to lug around than his pc. :p

Is the need incredibly immediate? The 50 series has released and it will be 4-5 months until those are out. You may be able to get a better deal on the 40 series laptops or (maybe) a better rig.

I highly recommend Lenovo Legion 5s or 7s. I find the build quality to be a notch above all others. I recently got a refurbished 5i with a 4060 for around $1000 for my wife. Lenovo's refurbished store is similar to Apples such that they come with a great warranty.


I also recommend you look into the difference between the 4070 laptop and the 4060 laptop GPUs. I was going to buy a 4070 laptop, but after seeing lots of reviews decided that it wasn't worth it. The consensus seems to be 4060 or 4080/4090, but the value to performance for the 4070 laptop is not there.

Yes, his birthday is this month.

My issue with the couple of MSI laptop's i've had experience with has been the audio quality. If you are using headphones, then no big deal, but I like decent audio on my laptops.

I got a MSI Katana 15 off Amazon a little while ago with the 4070 and 64gb of RAM. Been great so far. Battery life, not so much. I do use it at my desk, though, so it hasn't been an issue.

I had a legion desktop with the 4070 for right at that price. Smoking fast machine but fan always running full bore.


Ended up selling it and getting a quiet desktop legion that is probably 30-40% faster bc it's not the mobile edition and throttled down.
