Pixel messaging acting up

Asking for help here. I've been a happy Pixel owner since 2016. In the past 2 months, things have changed where text messaging makes me want to throw the phone out the window. If someone sends me an image, it takes like 5 min for it to actually download. Sometimes I'll send a text and when I reopen the app, there is no evidence that a text was ever sent by me. I can find little evidence online supporting my claims other than an article about a November update and RCS imaging that had made it worse. Anybody have advice? I went to the Verizon store who didn't really have anything to offer. I'm even considering switching back to iPhone... sometimes missing messages and not downloading them in time is a really effing big deal in the hospital.

TIA

ETA I have a Pixel 7 Pro with up to date software

Apple released their implementation of RCS a little over two months ago. I've noticed similar issues sending RCS messages to iPhone users the past couple of months. I'm sure it will get better as they debug this new implementation.

Yep, Pixel 7 Pro here. When Apple implemented RCS, it was nice to finally be able to text full size pictures with Iphone users, but pictures take a bit to load now.

I've had similar frustrations after upgrading to a Pixel 9 Pro from an ancient LG V30+ a few months ago (T-Mobile). RCS messaging to iPhone users is hit or miss. Sometimes they don't go through at all, sometimes they're delayed, sometimes it's perfect. On top of that, there's usually no indication on either end that there's an issue. Sometimes the iphone end will get a "failure to send" message and the person lets me know.

You can turn off RCS, and it'll default back to SMS. Will lose some of that advanced functionality, but may just work better.
