I have always trusted this site for build ideas. It looks like they currently recommend an RX6800 or RX7800 at that price point.

Depending on your timing, I'd guess that the RTX 4070 Super will be $499 soon, hopefully in a few weeks at the latest.

You'll need a fairly modern mobo for it through.

You can find the 4070 base (zotac is $500 at new egg and $490 at microcenter)

The 4070 power requirements are close to the 1060 (1x 8pin connector) a 4070 super or 7800xt might require a new psu

4070 is probably best bet with future proofing in mind. Its can do the newest DLSS and Ray Tracing.

I've got a brand new never out of the box Radeon RX6600xt that I'd be willing to part with for $150.

I ordered it two years ago when I got really ambitious about building my son a PC for Christmas, but then got scared and ended up buying a pre-built.

I always thought I'd save it in the event I ever build, but I'm never going to build and don't want to facebook marketplace some stranger. Would rather ship to another Ag.
