Anyone had to have this done, yet? Was it done to your satisfaction?

Was at a restaurant last night. Phone was on the table. Waiter dropped some silverware as he was clearing the table that hit my phone, poked a hole in the screen and shattered it. I've only had the phone a month.

Since getting the iPhone X, I've never broken or lost a phone in any way, so I don't have insurance.

Restaurant manager says he wants to make it right. I have an appt at Best Buy (Apple says "authorized" repairs can be done at Apple or Best Buy stores, and BB was first available).

Looks like the price is $329, but I have a plus, so it might be more. Restaurant manager says he "might know a guy" who can fix it, but on a brand new phone that I was planning to keep for at least 2 years (maybe longer), I don't want to risk it. The last screen repair my son had on his phone (11 or 12, I think) has given him nothing but headaches with separation at the edges and lack of responsiveness.

At least if I get an "authorized" repair, I can (in theory) go back if I have problems.

I really want a new phone, but I doubt that's going to happen.

I would recommend getting it done at an Apple Store because you should have better luck with getting any potential future issues resolved. It is also possible they will just give you a new phone.

Update on this - since I am still within my 60 day purchase window, I was able to add Apple care from my phone. I did that today.

In one place, though, it says my Apple care expires on Sept 19, 2025 (which was my original date of purchase). So maybe I already had it? I don't know why I would be allowed to purchase it again, if that was the case.

But for $8.99, it's worth a shot.

I'd recommend making an appt and going to the Apple Store.

In my experience - best buy might have the appointment, but its likely they'll ship it to apple anyways, so might need to check on that.

Went to the Apple Store last night and they replaced the screen. Took about 2 1/2 hours. Cost was $29. I can cancel my monthly Apple Care subscription at any time, if I want to.

I always keep Apple care on new phones. You can add it within 60 days but it still starts from the purchase date. It's worth it. Glad you got it fixed.
