There's a Steam Sale on Metal Gear games. Which one would you recommend I get if I've never played any of them except Phantom Pain?

MGS4 is fantastic but not on PC I don't think. Unless you do an emulator.

Snake Eater is great. Would probably be fun to play since Delta (the remaster of Snake Eater) is coming out later this year or next.

The mechanics are obviously dated though, so I'm not sure if it would be that fun as a first play through.

I'm rather fond of Metal Gear Solid. It was the first game I ever purchased for my Playstation back in the day.

I paid some guy advertising on Resnet $7 to burn me a copy; I also paid him another $10 or so to solder my Playstation to play burned games.

The original Metal Gear Solid for me. Snake Eater is great and more grounded in its story elements. And MGS2 has a lot of spectacle to it, although it's somewhat divisive.

MGS1 and MGS3 for sure.

MGS Delta comes out in a year or two, so it would be a perfect time to play snake eater.

I've only tried MGS4, and it's an amazing game. I wanted to try another game from this series, but I don't have a lot of time to play, and I prefer to try something new in that case. For example, I play new STALKER, and from time to time I play different slots. I don't like trying new casinos because it takes time to find something good, so when I found https://zodiac-casinos.at/ and saw that it's a good one and there were enought games for me to try, I stayed there. Maybe on vacation, I'll have more time, and I'll play, for example, MGS3.

If I had to rank them it would be:

MGS 1 (such ground breaking game play for the PlayStation)

MGS 3: Snake Eater (Was so cool with so many different elements of gameplay that were mind blowing at the time with quite possibly one of the coolest boss fights ever with the old sniper)

MGS 5: Phantom Pain (open world metal gear game which was really really cool….but the game took a turn when it had you replay scenarios you had already done and just made them harder….really turned me off to finishing it all)

MGS 2: Had a lot of cool elements but man this is where the plot of the series took a turn to the crazy and the biggest issue….Raiden…..I can see what they were trying to do but man it really took me out of the whole experience…

MGS 4: holy cut scenes Batman! Cut scene after cut scene after cut scene….jeez this is a game that really didn't want you to play it and the "last level" while it took hours really only had 2 playable parts that weren't long not counting the final boss fight which was cool and impactful but by no means makes up for how ridiculous this plot was and how little gameplay was actually in it….

Those are the main 5 and yes there are other smaller games that got released on different systems but I never played them nor did I play any of the older ones prior to MGS1 on the PlayStation

Edit: also…there's apparently some sort of zombie base survival metal gear solid game that was the first MGS release after Konami fired Hideo Kojima…..do not buy it……use that money to feed the less fortunate or to help start a camp fire…..it'll be a better use than buying that trash

And last…..Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance….havent played this one but holy crap I've heard it's absolutely bonkers but in the best way possible….heard the gameplay all around is a lot of fun and the boss fights are pretty awesome….not your typical metal gear game but tries and succeeds at making Raiden a cool character

1, 2, 3 and 4. Phantom Pain has great gameplay and a godawful story.

Edit: I realize this is a BS answer but I'm recommending 1-4 in order. If you had to play one, I'd say 3 or 1. But 1-4 makes for an amazing ride.

Snake Eater is the best entry in the series by far IMO.

1 was groundbreaking when it came out, and the psycho mantis fight was awesome.

2 has its moments...but the boss fights are kind of lame and being stuck as Raiden for 75% of the game was a nut punch to people who wanted to be snake.

4 as mentioned is very cut scene heavy and old broken down Snake wasn't what I wanted either.

3... Oh Snake Eater how perfect you are. It's a Cold War nuclear annihilation story, so it strays far from the conspiracy stuff in the other entries which is a good thing. There are great and varied sneaking sections as well as great set action pieces. The boss fight with the sniper is SO fun trying to find him and hunt him down. And the final boss fight was well done and made for a fitting conclusion that helps explain why Snake/Big Boss goes rogue.

I've probably played through Snake Eater 6 or 7 times including my masterpiece no alert nonlethal run.
