I'm looking into buying a VR headset but I'm not sure whether to go with a Quest3 or VR2 (or something else I suppose) so I thought I'd ask TexAgs.

I currently have a Switch and mainly just play Tears of the Kingdom and Smash Bros. I'm hoping a VR headset will help me be a little more "active" when gaming, so I'm interested in the fitness type games to start. At least that's how I'm justifying the purchase to myself

Money isn't that big of a deal but I'd like to stay under $1000 if possible. I don't have a PS5 so it seems like the VR2 would be much larger investment, but I've always wanted to try a few PS games that aren't on the Switch, so maybe it's worth it.

Anyone have an opinion on my situation based on this info? Any advice on other things I should be thinking about before buying? Thanks in advance fellow nerds!

Quest 3 is a fantastic device. The fact that it is stand-alone is also a huge selling point over things like the PSVR which tether you to a console. I would highly recommend that over the Quest 2.

Also do yourself a favor and get this. It's 100% more comfortable than the standard strap that comes with it and you get an extra battery for longer life.

Amazon: BoboVR Headstrap

I have a Quest 3 and can confirm it is fantastic. It is stand alone so there is plenty you can do it right out of the box. As mentioned, it is very uncomfortable and has a short battery life so get a 3rd party headstrap/battery pack. The one above should do the trick. I have the one linked below and it works great as well.

The Quest 3 also gives you the flexibility to connect to your PC and do some more advanced PCVR gaming. But.... that comes at much more than the $1,000 price tag.
