All but GOTY chosen so far.

Nothing too surprising to me so far. Sad state of the RTS world though when f'ing Pikmin takes the dub...

BG3 takes GOTY and rightly so. Really suprised alan wake took best narratives over BG3. The narratives in BG3 are far superior.

Yup, that was the one that was on the edge for me. I just chalked it up to a gimme though since the foundations of all moral civilization depended on BG3 taking GOTY.

Disappointed that TOTK only took one award.

Interesting Spider-man 2 took home nothing. It did so many things great, but I guess didn't excel at one thing to take home awards.

Spider-man 2 (PS5) didn't take anything home and Starfield (Xbox) didn't receive a nomination. Looks like the two 2024 AAA+ titles were lacking?

BG3 had a great night, well deserved.

Alan Wake did better than I would have thought.

TotK, while an amazing game, still had too much of that BOTW+ stigma around it, I think, to take home a lot of awards.

Not surprised Starfield didn't gain much traction. While it is impressive in some aspects, it is just missing something from their previous games that made them classics.

Don't get me wrong I loved Spider-Man 2 and 100% it, but it was a safe, cookie cutter sequel.

I think both Spider Man and Starfield are victims of their own success. If this was the first Spidey game and if this was Bethesda's first game, both would cleaned house with awards.

As it is, both are sorta "been there, done that" great games that used very familiar formulas (Same for Zelda). They lost out to games doing things we hadn't really seen before.

Not even close and BG3 is my GOTY.

What Alan Wake 2 pulls off in terms of meta-narrative and incorporating live action film to tell that story is on an entire other level. Herald of Darkness (which was performed) is a master class of narrative in context to the story than anything Larian pulls off.

Does Spider-Man 2 even have its own game thread in the Nerdery?

Most games don't get discussion threads anymore. This place is a shadow of what it used to be for multiple reasons.

Spider-Man won nothing in 2018 too

What success did Starfield have? Reviews were pretty middling.

Herald of Darkness is incredible. It's been getting a ton of my Spotify plays recently

Had the opportunity to meet Sam Lake a few years ago at an event. This was around the time Control was popular. Down to earth and hard not to like. The Finns are badass

I could not agree with this more. I am still playing FF16, but I believe what will stick with me the most is the music. It is fantastic. The voice actor for the main character is good too, but unfortunately, he was going up against BG3.

Herald of Darkness lives rent free in my brain. Sam Lake really won the game awards getting to go out on stage and dance. That was a man living his best life

I wonder if it's because of the collapse of certain narrative threads in the first release of the game, as a consequence of cutting out a huge area of Baldur's Gate (upper city) from the game? I know it messed up Karlach, and most of Minthara's dialogue and storyline weren't working at all at release.

Aging out I imagine. Folks leave/lose interest and no one really replaces.

My assumption is the minimum age of a typical poster on this site has to be in their mid/late 30s. I don't know of anyone who is younger that frequents message boards any longer.

I put it to them picking a forced down your throat single path narrative (a good one, dont get me wrong) vs pick a path that can be incredibly short or long, extremely fun and rewarding or not very fun if you screw yourself out of different options via your choices. But overall narrative paths is by far better imo in BG3.

I do think it's interesting though that every show or movie under the sun gets a thread on Entertainment but the only game threads that get a thread on here are generally the top one or two triple AAA title for any given year.

I was a bit shocked to find that the last game thread I participated in with any kind of fervor was Skyrim and that was over 10 years ago.

And the gaming industry has been bigger than film for several years now.
