I'm sure it has been asked before, but I didn't see anything on the first page. I am currently using LastPass, but seeing how there have been a ton of issues with data breaches and folks getting hacked, I want to move to something a bit more secure.

A couple of things, one, how much risk am I in currently with all of my info in LastPass (I believe I have a strong master password that is 24 characters long with letters and numbers, upper and lower case), and I have updated my financial and email accounts with new strong passwords? Two, I know it's probably a matter of personal preference, but which LastPass competitor would you all recommend? I am fairly tech-savvy, but I'd like to have something like LastPass that has a Chrome plug-in and works on iPhones as well as computers (we have a Mac at home, but use PCs for work).

I saw the post from last week about someone's Coinbase being hacked and it prompted me to do some research on Coinbase hacks, and I saw that most of the victims were LastPass users. That was the last straw for me, because I don't want to have to deal with anything like that, and I'm ready to move on to something better. I figured this was as good as any place to ask this question.

I switched from Lastpass to Dashlane and have been very happy.

I've used 1Password for years now.

Another vote for Bitwarden. LastPass betrayed me one too many times.

I switched from LastPass to 1Password and I love it. We have the family plan and it's been very easy and seamless to share passwords amongst whole family when needed.

I have used 1Password and enjoy the overall effectiveness, but it is not as efficient as I expected... meaning I find it clunky to use with i)S devices.

What are the pros / cons of 1Password v Bitwarden for those who have experience with both?

I've used and liked Dashlane and Bitwarden over the last few years. Dashlane is great but expensive. Bitwarden has great features for the price.

I think 1Password and Bitwarden are the most commonly used, but I think 1Password has the edge according to this video.

I was a longtime user of LastPass and switched to self hosted Bitwarden last year. If you have an always on machine this off a great option. Even just a RaspberryPi or NAS is more than sufficient.

LastPass to Bitwarden for me too. You are *probably* OK on last pass if you have changed your master password and accounts stored within, but the way they dealt with everything made it easy to ditch them.

Aside from strong, unique passwords for every site, get app based or hardware key MFA set up everywhere you can, and submit requests to support it from companies that don't. Avoid SMS as MFA unless it is absolutely necessary as the only supported option (and gripe at them a lot, especially a financial institution).

We switched from lastpass to 1password. It's fine.

Bitwarden, because both my wife and myself can make changes and it stays sync'd. Now that she has gotten comfortable with Bitwarden, not planning on changing for a while. But like what Proton has to offer.

Just a heads up for everyone (and since this was highest on the list of people talking about password managers I figured I would put it here), Bitwarden is starting to roll out passkey capability for sites that support it. Same thing apple is doing with touch/facID and passkeys for supported sites.

Passkey support will be coming to mobile sometime soon. Today, we use Xamarin to develop our mobile apps and their support for the latest iOS/Android SDKs that support passkeys lags a bit behind native SDK releases. Our team is working on making this available in our apps. Additionally, we are planning to drop Xamarin and move to native apps in 2024 which would allow us to move faster on new releases like this in the future.

A new browser extension version, 2023.10.2, is rolling out in various web stores right now that addresses bug fixes and some UX improvements to the current passkey implementation. No doubt there is more work to do to, so please feel free to continue sharing feedback or issues that you face. Improvements include:

Automatically fall back to the native "use browser" option when no passkeys exist in Bitwarden for a given website. The vault must be unlocked for us to know no passkeys exist.

Fixes to iCloud and Google passkey login. There is still a known issue with Google on some Windows device configurations.

If they're going to need to integrate SDKs moving forward, then going native on both platforms is the best way to go in my opinion. But I'm not surprised they were on Xamarin, it's one of the quickest way to get an app up and running. Overall, it's been a bit since I've had to deal with mobile development platforms so not sure how good Maui is, but I know if you're having to deal with interactions of the login workflow for websites, having native apps is worlds easier than dealing with the dev platforms (at least 2 years ago).
