Didn't even put in Zombies ate my Neighbors, FF2, F-Zero, Act Raiser, or Contra. Slacker! It's really amazing just how MANY influential and awesome games came out on that console. I really think it was the console that really showed that this wasn't going to be a niche industry anymore and something that would be an entertainment option in homes for decades to come.

And glad you like the Deck. I love having the ability to take it on the road or throw it up on a TV and relax with it. It might not play Hogwarts Legacy at 4k but neither could the Switch. Great handheld in the vein of the Switch.

The SNES and Genesis came out at the wrong time for me. Parents couldn't afford it due to medical and other cash issues and I couldn't afford it because it was $200. An unattainable amount when all you have is a push mower in an area where people are cheap and on acreage, and a late '70s Oldsmobile with a thirsty V8 to feed.

$120 for a Genesis was more doable, and the kid across the street who was also in high school already had one, meaning you can double your game library by swapping so that's what I ended up with. I got more into PC gaming in the mid-'90s and for the most part was off consoles until the late PS1 era.

Super Mario RPG
Secret of Mana

I remember when I got Secret of Mana... took it over to a friends house to spend the night & play co-op. When we fired it up for the first time we probably sat there and re-watched that into sequence 3 or 4 times. The music and that scene that opens up to show a huge tree with flamingos flying by. Had never seen anything like it in a video game.

EDIT: 30 years ago... just wow!

I figured I should throw these in the mix as well as great SNES titles worthy of mention: TMNT: Turtles in Time, Super Ghouls and Ghosts, Contra III: The Alien Wars

ETA: Biker Mice from Mars

Gotta be SNES for me. It's hard to describe how freaking exciting it was to come home with that at the time.

I actually got Zombies Ate My Neighbors! and Ghoul Squad on switch and have been playing it with my son.

Not a huge gamer, but its SNES for me. Super Mario World, Mario Kart, Ken Griffey Jr Presents Major League Baseball (probably my favorite game), Madden 95 (I would unlock the Jags and destroy people), F-Zero, Donkey Kong games, etc etc. So many great games and memories.

Ken Griffey Jr was one of my favorites as well.

Little League Baseball: Championship Series was a great one on NES.

Commodore 64. Anyone that didn't grow up with it will never understand.
What you say, Paper Champion? I'm gonna beat you like a dog, a dog, you hear me!

Dreamcast

The biggest "wow" moment for me was when I bought the Dreamcast and the original NFL 2k.

Couldn't believe a game could look like that.

Most fun overall was probably N64. Great console if you had a small group of friends that were into games.

I want to like the Dreamcast more but Sega's move to have only one analog joystick was a huge misstep. It turns games like Sonic Adventure into a great big motion sickness fest for me. The game forces the camera perspective to change too much in ways I don't want it to. Also that disc drive

SHHHHHH.... SHHH SHHH SHH SHHH SHHHH SHH SH SHHHHHH

all the time. Sucks when your roommate has one and decides to play PSO early on a Saturday morning.

Dreamcast for me. Soul Calibur and Crazy Taxi got about as much playtime at our house as Goldeneye on my brother's N64.

Plus there was that game where you grow a sperm with a human face. Weird ass Japanese......

I got a Switch this year though, and that's been steadily climbing the rankings.

I'd say it's a tie between the N64 and Super Nintendo. The quality and quantity of games on those are hard to beat. But the NES is up there too. Still remember getting it for Christmas and playing Super Mario Bros for the first time.

Surprised by all the Dreamcast mentions. I don't think I knew anyone who had one. The only time I even played one was at Blockbuster when they first came out.

nes.

hard to describe first controlling something on the tv with dark alice in wonderland themes and weird synthetic music playing.

Seems totally normal now, but in 85 it wasn't

Later in life it was also my first attempt at assembly language on a real machine , not some mips emulator

Great answer!

I'm old enough to have owned an Atari and the NES, but it was the SNES that really sealed the deal and made me a life long gamer.

And the 360 is the reason why Xbox is still my console of choice... I got hooked into their online and digital games ecosystem and I'm still a customer almost 20 years later.

I think this is how I'd rank the consoles I've owned:
1a. XBox 360
1b. SNES
2. XBox Series X
3. Playstation 2
4. XBox One X
5. N64
6. XBox
7. Playstation
8. NES
9. Xbox One
10. Playstation 3
11. Atari 2600

I remember the days of downloading pirated software from random bulletin boards with a phone in a cradle onto large floppy disks. Of course I don't really consider the Commodore 64 to be a console per se, but I never did anything other than game on it. I upgraded to it from my Atari 2600. Good days.

For me: SNES and then PS2. So many wonderful (J)RPGs.

For my kids: Switch.

Oh this is tough.

I'd probably go N64, PS2, PSX, SNES.

I think my rankings of what I've owned.

1.ps3 - was my late teen college years when I had the most time to play.
2. N64 - was younger for it but loved the games. Still have it and play it.
3. Game Boy - so much time spent on it as a kid in cars.
3.ps2 - played the crap out of it it, sports games started getting better and the Medal of Honor games got me into shooters.
4. Ps5 - amazing what it can do, but being older now it's kinda annoying how complex some games are/have too much going on. With infants so hard to have time and learn the nuances of games. Plus I missed ps4 where they started doing seasons, game passes and all sorts of money over good products at launch bs so I missed learning some new mechanics.
5. Super Nintendo - not fair because it was just at my grandparents lake house, but loved duck hunt and I was like 5 so never played it in depth.
