The problem isn't so much that, the Switch had TONS of games that just never came to the West or were very niche for the West. For better or worse Nintendo is still heavily a Japanese focused company when it comes to games. This is very different than the Sony strategy. They also want to heavily play in the exclusive realm and it has turned off some partners and the relationship because the market is so fractured and cross play has gained enough traction that the companies they've partnered with for exclusives in the past or exclusive launch windows lasting up to a year don't make since for the partners in the same way.
I get it. but selling 10+ year old games for $59 is pretty lame.

they just "re-released" donkey kong country a few weeks ago.

That game came out in 1994. 30 years ago.

Give me new games.

Totally agree. Nintendo's pricing strategy and habits haven't changed since the 80s and deserve a lot of disgust but they will never ever take the steam sale approach.

Little bit surprised they didn't opt for an OLED option.

My guess is they probably went a little higher-end than usual with the specs, but still wanted to keep the price reasonable.

They never sell at a loss like Sony or Microsoft.

Wouldn't be surprised if they announce an OLED version within the year though.

Today is the last day to register for a chance to attend the Nintendo Switch 2 Experience! I registered for Dallas.

Oh BOTW is basically distractions: the game.
I get distracted about everytime I play it. But I can never get enough of just wandering around, killing enemies, finding shrines and foraging stuff. I have a huge list of unfinished objectives and quests… but eventually the stars align and I'll get one done.

Before BOTW, I had only ever played legend of Zelda and legend of Zelda II on NES.
So I missed a few decades of it lol.

Steam sales happen for a reason, because 99% of games can't sell at full price long term. First party Nintendo games are as evergreen as they come. Why should Nintendo discount their older games if they don't have to?

Steam sale, F2P, and subscription game services like Gamepass, while obviously great for the consumer are horrible for game devs. It is a race to the bottom. Hardly anyone pays full price for a game anymore, but dev costs are continuing to rise as the bar for production value and amount of content keeps increasing. Combine that with the dominance of GaaS capturing almost all of a player's game time for years on end, and the result is the biz model of the game industry is completely broken, which is part of the reason we continue to see massive layoffs for going on two years now, and 2025 is not looking like it is going to be any better.

Nintendo is one of the few companies that continues to be successful in more traditional game dev/biz model. I do not fault them for that.

Not saying they have to but doesn't mean I'm going to pay them. Plenty of other as good or better games to play out there. The only Nintendo exclusive I've had any interest in in a decade (more?) are the Zelda games. I'm not paying full freight for Ocarina of Time or Wind Walker. Why would I?

100% that is completely your purchase prerogative. I am with you in that I won't pay full price for those older games, but clearly enough people do that Nintendo feels they don't need to discount them.

A lot of rumors/leaks about Nintendo having a killer lineup for its first year of Switch 2. Like 2017 on steroids.

  • Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
  • New 3D Mario game
  • Mario Kart 9 (Open-world style seems to be the rumor, too)
  • Legend of Zelda Remake (Ocarina of Time is the most popular theory)
  • Pokemon Legends: Z-A
  • Final Fantasy IX Remake
  • Resident Evil 0 Remake
  • Hollow Knight: Silksong

A bunch of Microsoft ports. (ie Halo, Starfield, Fallout 4)

And a whole bunch of new AAA releases including Doom: The Dark Ages.

Shaping up to be a hell of a year for Nintendo.

I would do unspeakable things for something like this. I am a massive Diddy Kong Racing fan, I give it a yearly playthrough it seems like. I love the overworld setup and DKR being a significantly better game than Mario Kart 64 is a hill I am prepared to die on.

I'm so mad they never released this on Switch Online. This and DK 64.

Don't understand how they could do Goldeneye and Banjo-Kazooie and not those.

had no idea this was a real name lol.

I'm surprised they haven't changed that name... where's the cancel culture on that one!

If this lineup is even close to true then I won't even have to think about it, will buy as soon as I can get my hands on one.

You just described every current gaming console.

If anything, Switch has been the best console for smaller, original indie games, and that's likely to continue with Switch 2.

We have a Switch with a Jurassic Park and Star Wars game.

I also have a GameBoy Color for Tetris.

Been watching some youtube videos speculating about the new mouse feature on the joycons.

Lot of people thinking it could be a pretty big gamechanger. More RTS games, many more Mario Maker or Mario Paint type games which are way better with a mouse, and even DS/3DS Online, with the mouse capability replacing the touchscreen/pen.

Maybe even shooters allowing for mouse controls for folks who are used to mouse and keyboard for their FPS games.

Thoughts?

So if I'm sitting on the couch playing a game, do I have to keep a flat surface nearby to use this feature? I dunno, I feel like this is something that will be used in a couple of glorified tech demos (1, 2, switch 2?) then never seen again. Maybe they'll get bold and force its use in the next big Mario or Zelda game. Pretty far down my list of interests for the console, but curious what they put out for it.
