It's just hard for me to jump on Switch 2 when I love my SteamDeck so much. Before getting a deck I would have 100% wanted one.

Agreed! The Steam Deck is awesome. I've gotten hands on with a switch a couple times... it's just not a comfortable device to hold and the thumb sticks were terrible.

And one of the biggest advantages to the Steam Deck... I can play ALL my favorite retro games. Nintendo is sitting on a gold mine. 40 years of all time classics that are still a blast to play... and yet, they have yet to offer a real way to play them on their handheld console. People would gladly pay for it, but Nintendo appears to be too busy suing emulation devs instead.

I mean the easy answer is Nintendo exclusives...lots of good games for the Switch that you can't play on Steam deck anytime soon.

I just want to know when the next Super Mario 3d game will be released. I'm assuming since the last one was released back in 2016/17, it should be sometime soon and will probably coincide with the release of Switch 2.

So I'm hoping the 3 big games that will help launch the Switch 2 will be:

Metroid Prime 4
Mario Kart 9
New Super Mario game

Then about 2-3 years down the road there will be another open world Zelda game released?

Many of them are available on Switch Online. (NES, SNES, N64, and Genesis.)

Granted it's a pretty small percentage of the libraries.

I doubt it. We haven't hit the 30 day return date yet if you bought a Switch for the holidays.

I was wrong. I'm glad they confirmed the leaks. Now to wait for two and a half months.

I'm definitely buying one for the wife. I'll have to see what they offer software wise before deciding to get one for myself having a Steam Deck and my Switch collecting dust. My gripe with Nintendo is they're too conservative with their online experiences. The Nintendo Online companion app was a big let down. Also, dropping a lot of cool experiences we had with the 3DS. I was hoping they would bring back Street Pass. The home button has a led status light behind it that was only used for one game in the entire lifespan of the Switch. You'd think that would light up for some sort of message.

The mouse looks promising of them having some sort of SwitchOS. With Nintendo Labo and Mario Maker, I think Nintendo would do something really cool with this, but I don't want to get my hopes up. It'll probably be another 1 2 Switch gimmick.

Yeah, I think my biggest issue is Nintendo did some of this back starting with the Wii, but now you can't play any of those games unless you still have your almost 20 year old Wii still hooked up. I've heard that their digital store is a complete mess and at any given time they will de-list games and anything that you "own" that you don't have downloaded and backed up is just gone.

But I agree with the other post post above, it's their current gen games that drive the console and they have lots of good ones. I'm also fully onboard with Nintendo shutting down Switch emulation... can't believe it went on as long as it did.

Can they start making new original games again? Switch's biggest letdown was that most of the games were wii u ports or "remakes" of older games (Mario rpg)

I'd give anything for a remake of ocarina of time.

I'll do everything I can to get one on release. I just hope it runs BotW and TotK at 60 FPS.

I am with you. One of the reasons I struggled finishing Elden Ring. I prefer the interconnected world design of the other Souls games.

The problem isn't so much that, the Switch had TONS of games that just never came to the West or were very niche for the West. For better or worse Nintendo is still heavily a Japanese focused company when it comes to games. This is very different than the Sony strategy. They also want to heavily play in the exclusive realm and it has turned off some partners and the relationship because the market is so fractured and cross play has gained enough traction that the companies they've partnered with for exclusives in the past or exclusive launch windows lasting up to a year don't make since for the partners in the same way.

It's not exactly Switch 2 related, but felt compelled to mention it in case you or any other OOT fans here missed it somehow... OOT was 100% decompiled and remade into Ship of Harkinian. It most importantly enables 60 FPS and free camera look among all sorts of other quality of life options. You can even install high resolution texture packs. If you have a PC or Android device it's very easy to setup and is by far the best OOT experience possible. It's incredible what the game looks like at 60 frames per second, it feels like a remake at times.

EDIT to mention you can play this on a Switch, there's a setup guide for it.

Sure thing. I knew I'd snapped a photo of it from my Odin 2 for the thread in the Nerdery talking about retrohandhelds a while back and I found it. Here's what the visuals can look like these days while staying very faithful to the core game.

Are you using add on textures or just using more power to render?

Looks fantastic.

Ocarina of Time Remake would be easy money for Nintendo this year.

With no major Zelda release on the horizon, this would be the perfect one to release.

And I guess if we're asking for stuff, it would be awesome if they did Majora's Mask too.

Similar to how FF7 Remake / Rebirth were two games.

But first things first.

And I know Mario Kart is a system seller, but if they announce a new 3D Mario for launch year also, that would be a slam dunk software-wise.

That's a 1080p texture pack and a 1080p screen. SoH allows for modern resolutions so even without texture packs it looks way better upscaled to modern resolutions.

This will be my kids first system, so I'm pretty pumped to get back into the world of Mario.

A new 3d Mario or a new Zelda game will probably be the only reasons I buy the new Switch2.

The rumor is that they're making the new mario game more open world similar to the movie I guess? And it won't just be Mario Odyssey 2, it'll be a brand new storyline and system.

Again just rumors.

Currently it's the longest stretch between flagship Mario 3d games:

1996 - Super Mario 64
2002 - Super Mario Sunshine
2007 - Super Mario Galaxy
2010 - Super Mario Galaxy 2
2017 - Super Mario Odyssey

So we're going on 8 years since Odyssey, so I have to think a new Mario game will get released within a year. I could see them releasing Switch 2 with Metroid Prime and Mario Kart 9 in June or so. Then announce a new Super Mario game for a November/December release.

I'm just bummed we never got a Prime 2 and 3 Remastered.

Don't forget 2013 - Super Mario 3D World.

I am predicting that Mario Kart 9 will be a launch game for the Switch 2, and the new 3D Super Mario game will be the big holiday game released in Oct/Nov.

I think Metroid Prime 4 may be a dual release on Switch and Switch 2 (with enhanced graphics) like Zelda: Breath of the Wild on Switch/Wii U and Zelda: Twilight Princess on Wii/GameCube.

There are rumors that the new 3D Mario game will have open world elements like Bowser's Fury.

3D World wouldn't really qualify. That falls into the 2.5D category and not into the mainline 3D Mario games. (Even with the misleading title.)

I'm with you too. I never came close to finishing it. I don't have hours at a time to wander around figuring out what to do. And when I haven't played in a while, I have to take time to figure out where I am, where I need to be, and what my objective is.

It was a pretty frustrating and disappointing experience because I love older Zelda games.

Your main objective is always pretty clear when you look at your quests.

Definitely true, but they also make it difficult because they give you weapons/clothing along with being able to hit more shrines to up your hearts/stamina. Thats how I easily get distracted.
