Wifi Light Bulbs won't connect to router

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I just purchased some GE wifi light bulbs and they won't connect to my wifi/router. Was told by GE that my router is WPA3 and the bulbs can only use WPA2. They suggested to change the settings on my router (Netgear/Nighthawk).

Should I do that? And if I do, does it mess up everything else I've got connected?

Hopefully I said all of that right. Not tech savvy!!

The NightHawk should support WPA2, maybe you need to enable it. I've had Wi-Fi bulbs before, but found they run really hot (which breaks them) & the signal is weak. I've switched to GE's Cync bulbs that are "Bluetooth Only" so it doesn't use Wi-Fi at all:

I can connect to them directly from my phone, change colors & set on/off schedules. The only limitation is that you have to be near them, so controlling them remotely away from home isn't possible. But I generally set & forget them.

Thank you. Yes, the lights I got at Lowes got extremely hot after being on only for a few minutes.

I'll try those from Amazon. Can you use them outside?

Yes, I use them outside. My outdoor lamps have glass covers to block the rain.

Have you considered smart switches instead? Not hard to install or likely wouldn't be too expensive to have installed.

There is one there that is connected to the alarm.com app but I haven't found a way to be able to set an on/off time. I just am able to toggle it on and off.

Well, heck!! I finally found where I can set it! Had to use my laptop, but it's set now! TexAgs is the best!!

Great! If you want more, take a look at the TP-Link Kasa line. We have several of them in our home and smart plugs as well. Schedule them through the Kasa app and/or use them with Echo Dot.

I got the same bulbs. I don't see anywhere on the app to change colors. I sent a note to their support and waiting to hear back.

Once the lights are connected using the app, there is a small "arrow left" for each bulb that slides open when clicked. From there, you can change the color.

I went all in on these a year or two ago, but I think the tech is still pretty gimmicky. Once every two months or so i lose them and then have to reset the router and then every single device has to be added back. It can be a major pain.

Yep. My phone app must have updated over the weekend because those weren't there last week!!
