We finally had to replace the last TV that would work with my old Nintendo 64 console. Have any of you had any luck with the hdmi converters? This one gets mostly good reviews, but there's a decent amount of "didn't work at all" in there too.

In my experience it has more to do with the TV than the adapter. I've done converters for the Wii and my SNES. My main Samsung TV wouldn't display anything, but if I routed it through my Sony receiver then into the TV it would work fine. I have a 22" Dynex that would display both systems with zero issues.

I'm willing to be those poor reviews are having the same issue.

I use a RetroTINK. There is also the RAD2X, which uses the same technology. These are the best…provided you can get them. The RAD2X is made in the UK and is currently out of stock, while guy who runs RetroTINK is apparently sick right now.

For something more readily available, I would just grab a cheap RCA to HDMI adapter. I got one of these from Best Buy when I needed a solution on short notice and it works well enough. Just make sure the one you get has the RCA on the input side and the HDMI on the output side.

This is the solution. RetroTink is the golden standard and is used by almost all the video creators i know of for playing their games on HDMI so they can capturing the output. There are plenty of knockoffs on Amazon and they will likely work too. Just search for "OSSC"

My N64 cable doesn't have s-video, just AV component (RWY).

Thanks for all the suggestions so far!
