cutting the cord doesnt really exist anymore
It does, it just means actually cutting the cord, not replacing it with an alternative.
In my opinion, what we have now is still better than the early 2000's options of antenna, cable, or satellite.
I use YouTube TV for football season and turn it off after the Super Bowl. I can turn it off and on at will without speaking to another person or having someone come out to my home. No equipment needed. Same deal with the (previously) supplemental offerings like Netflix, Prime, HBO Max, Hulu, Disney +, Paramount +, Apple TV +, etcetera. Off and on at will.
Many of us had Netflix even when we had full cable, so that's not really a replacement cost. Same with Prime. Plus, some other services (cell phone) are offering some of these entertainment options as a free add-on.
The truth is, this space has been experiencing major evolution over the last decade and that looks to continue into the foreseeable future. Unfortunately, its not a space where you want to make a choice, get locked in, and forget about it for a decade. As frustrating as it can be, we have a variety of options and I find it fun to watch the progression of the industry.
