I've googled this already and got some starting info but curious what folks here think.

I'm a hardcore flight fan...got my pilots license at 19 and flew at the TAMU flying club in school. Just got out of both simulator and real flight as life went on (kids, house, etc).

I wanted to dive back into flight seems after seeing DCS + VR setups online: looks amazing. A friend told me that AMD was releasing their new Radeon 7900 lineup soon...but that's a $800+ GFX card.

I'm curious if I can go with a lesser setup given that I'd need to potentially invest in VR gear + $350 + stick/throttle + $400-500.

Do we have many Ags playing DCS?

I am running MSFS2020 just fine with the settings turned up on a 2060 if that's a helpful.

Careful though - you'll be back in a real plane knocking the rust off in no time.

I've also wanted to get into DCS, I've been loving MSFS2020.

I've been running a Ryzen 5 3600 and a 3070 with no issues.

I play DCS. VR is incredible, but it eats RAM and DCS isn't as optimized for VR as it could be.

32 GBs DDR4 3200
RTX 3080

I played with a GTX 1070, until I got the 3080 last year. It worked fine on a flat screen and I comulti-player with everything turned down. I didn't really try it with multiplaye.

I read the new AMD 79xX is coming out at $800-$999. Wow...what a crazy time for prices.

Upgrading from the 3600 to the 5800x3d will make it feel like an entirely new PC

My wife will hate me when I start shopping parts again.

I play DCS in VR with a 1080 Ti and it's pretty damn amazing, especially carrier ops in the F-18. MSFS 2020 definitely has a stutter even with the graphics turned down a bit. X-plane 12 is smooth when it's running. I'd like to do some upgrades, but spent too damn much money when I built this rig in 2017.
