Anyone else notice that android updates are installing games without user permission?

Noticed it on the last two "security updates.". Not a huge deal to remove them, just wondering what is up with this practice.

Mine is a galaxy s22.

Also noticing it reset all my notification settings and some (important) work apps aren't working.

Easy solution - stop installing OS updates.

Do you have T-Mobile? Each time there is a security update, they ask to install an app that will "customize" apps to meet your needs. They do not give an option to not install it if you want to clear it from your status bar.

Then, the damned thing starts installing crappy game apps.

Verizon.

Have had Samsung and Verizon forever. Last two updates are the only times I have noticed this.

Turned off auto updates per the above suggestion.

Does Oneplus have their own version of Android they push out?

I'm on 13 on a Pixel and love it. I always thought Oneplus ran stock android.

Completely ignoring OS updates is not great practice. Android 10 is still officially supported, so you don't necessarily need to upgrade to 11 or 12. But you should still be installing security updates/patches/bug fixes for your current OS.

They used to use fairly stock android. That's why I bought in. Better hardware than the Pixels 3 years ago. For Android 11, they switched to Oxygen OS that's used on Oppo and other phones. It kind of sucks and is skinned similar to Samsung's OneUI.

Sure it is. My phone is rooted. If someone wants to attack it, it's wide open already. I'll upgrade when some app I use no longer supports API level 29 or Google comes out with a decent new Pixel.

I avoid OS updates on my iOS and Windows devices too other than my work phone.
