Been a few years since we have purchased laptop and current one is showing signs of slowing down/freezing. . Family uses as desktop replacement so he 17 inch screen on current laptop is nice and preferred. We use just for the basics, no gaming, etc. This HP 17" on sale at Costco for $499, seems like would have everything for our uses unless I am overlooking something?

Eh... would be better with 16GB of memory but can likely upgrade that for cheap if needed.

He doesn't need 16GB of memory for basic computer stuff.

It's very "meh". I got that model as a reward thing through work and it's not terrible, but not great either. I use it for a Zwift (bike racing/trainer game thing). It not fast but workable if you aren't doing anything special on it.

I'm really thinking of trying to get like $150 for mine on Nextdoor while it is still new and put it toward an iPad Air. I know you probably don't want an Air because the screen size is a lot different, I'm just relaying how unimpressive it is. I know the iPad will still be snappy in a 4-5 years and do what I need it to do, Zwift, portable to take on trips to do work if I need to with a keyboard attached, web browsing.

If you need a recommendation for a new, easy to use desktop that is fully equipped minus programs like office, check out these mini type pcs i recommended on another thread. Extremely lightweight and quiet. Very little heat.
