Building a computer again... it's been a long time.

So I built my first PC years back with the help of a youtube video that was pretty much step by step and with the same parts I was using. This time around, I'm going to pick and choose what components I want, and build it myself. Any insight into the stuff I've selected so far? Something that's just overkill and a waste of money, or somewhere that I was too cheap and may cause a bottleneck? Maybe more importantly, if something wont actually fit dimension-wise. I've had good luck with this site in the past, but I'm terrified for everything to go smoothly and then one part is just a couple millimeters too long.
The only special circumstance I can think of is that I intend to use three monitors, and I need lots of storage capacity because of all the massive work files from over the years that I still need.

Any reason not to go with a 5800?

Your motherboard supports this series out of the box, you should be able to ignore the warning.

Thanks for the heads up! I was disappointed when that warning popped up, and I was too scared to risk it. I'll go with your advice for sure.

That's what a 1660 super goes for these days?

If you don't need 5TB total storage, I'd opt for an additional nvme drive for the speed, or even just a sata sad instead of the hdd.

You could probably opt for slightly slower ram with better cas latency if you want to go for barely noticeable gains.

I personally prefer cpu coolers from be quiet, the pure rock 2 or dark rock 4 are excellent. The 212 you have selected is pretty good for the money though, so again it's a very minor difference.

I'm running a 5900 on that motherboard.

I have a 1080ti (Aorus GTX GTRX 11GB) that I can part with for less than that. I lucked into a 3080 from EVGA last week that I signed up for Oct 20th 2020. I am in B/CS and will part with it for low end what they go for on craigslist or eBay.

At that build's price point you could are better off buying a pre-built.

Microcenter in DFW says they currently have six of these in stock:
https://www.microcenter.com/product/639591/asus-rog-strix-ga15-ga15dk-mb571-gaming-pc-platinum-collection

This would give you a current generation graphics card and processor and leave a lot of extra money if you wanted to replace the hard drive and re-case it something else that fits your style

Be careful buying prebuilts. A lot of them will use custom crappy parts that are hard to replace/upgrade. Infamous for OEM motherboards that won't take off the shelf parts.

Not sure about ROG but definitely avoid HP and Alienware if you are interested in future upgrades or changing cases. Even upgrading something simple like RAM can be difficult.

Most pre-builds I see, nowadays, list all the parts that are in it.
With Microcenter, I would not expect them to be selling a prebuilt with issues like that.

Microcenter is too dependent on their reputation to survive. I wouldn't expect their true pre-builds to be crap, but I've always built mine.

yep its pretty tough to beat the powerspec prices in this market... I threw all the parts from this rig (which is ship-able and also in stock in Dallas) into PC parts picker and it was over $2500:

https://www.microcenter.com/product/645170/powerspec-g439-gaming-pc

this is only $100 over OPs build and has a current gen processor and video card (which is over 2x the performance of a 1660S)

If you don't need to go all the way to a 3070ti this build with a 3060 is available in Dallas:

https://www.microcenter.com/product/635448/powerspec-g509-gaming-pc

Then you could order the case ($115) ram ($153) hard drives (120+73 = 193) and cooler ($50) recase the components for the look you want and your total would be $1811. It would be 6 cores instead of 8 but you will have $300 extra bucks and current generation hardware.
