Any recent experience w/4K projectors and gaming? Comparisons of $5K to $10K Sony/JVC vs $2500 for Epson?

I have an Epson 1080P projector that is getting long in the tooth. Still plenty of hours left on the lamp, but I'm getting anxious to upgrade to 4K.

Haven't gamed in years but am anxious to move to 4K and pair with a PS5 and get back in the saddle. I'm not interested in competitive gaming, but lag still factors somewhat. On the PS3 I have a pinball game that does excellent recreations of real world famous machines. A few of the recreations have enough input lag on the flippers that you have to mentally account for it, which is noticeable. You'll lose balls periodically solely due to the lag.

We watch a lot of TV/movies in the media room, and ultimately the projector will get far more hours doing that than gaming.

I've leaned towards a Sony, but understand JVC is great too. I'm willing to spend for one of the mid-tier Sony's, which is nuts but we watch the hell out of TV.

Then I read about the Epson simulated 4K which is a fraction of the cost. Some reviews bemoan as inferior, then others say you need to be a professional to tell the difference.

I've got the JVC 4k (DLA-RS2000k) and it is amazing. I wanted something that was true 4k vs the pixel shift. If you have the money, it's worth the price tag.

We watch movies and I play PS5 on it. Occasionally we watch tv but not often unless it is football season. I'm excited for the college season to start.

Happy to answer any questions if you have any.

I went with the Epson in that range and its been very solid. Went from a lower end 1080p to it and been very happy. I play a good amount of PS5 (demon souls, returnal, etc) and it is super nice. However, if I have the funds, i'll probably go to true 4k when this one craps out on us.

Thanks guys!

ExPLK - sounds like no ragrets on gaming and the JVC?

Can't wait for CFB. My favorite rollercoaster on the planet. Slow "click..click..click" June through August, Yeaahhhh! in September, and historically "WTF invented this get me off!!!!!" in October

None. I was worried as some of the reviews said the Sony was better than the JVC for gaming but I haven't had any issues. I mainly play sports games (Fifa, Madden, etc) and FPS (battlefield and COD) if that helps.

I have the JVC x790 which uses "wobble K" rather than true 4K. Absolutely cannot tell the difference between it a and a true 4K projector. No issues with gaming and JVC's are generally though to haver better black levels than Sonys.

Do they make projectors with manageable input lag? Last time I tried to play on one, there was just too much delay to be playable.

They recently came out with a 4K DLP chip (not true 4K) that has great latency and can do 240Hz 1080P. I am actually considering one since they are bright and have great lag. They are not very good with blacks though.

Wow. I did not know there were projectors with 4.2 ms of input lag. That's what I get on my 144 hz gaming monitor with my PC. Might have to look into that.
