It would be entertaining to see pics of your (or your favorite) retro technology. The Atari 2600 gets an automatic pass, and some old schoolers will show their age talking about Pong. I played those, but my real trek down the Nerdery started with this:

This is one corner of my den. The Apple ][+ and Commodore PET that my dad owned and I started on are still over at my parents place.

The Olympian is a 1st gen console FWIW, a neighbor curbed it in the late '90s. It plays a bunch of kinds of pong.
edit: I also have a beige TI plugged in to a TV along with the silver one in the box. There's probably a couple more still in their boxes over at my parents place too.

My parents finally got me a computer for Christmas, it was the TI 99-4A. TI had announced that they were discontinuing the PC line and the price on these dropped.

After I got it, I got a cassette recorder to save the data. I also had several books of programs to type into the machine.

The TI-99/4A was not the first computer I had as a kid, (we had a Sinclair ZX-81) but it was the first one that I actually wrote programs on. Saving them to audio cassette was an interesting experience.

My favorite game was Alpiner

I hope you're talking about the 80s here. If they got you a TI this past Christmas, they did you no favors.

My favorite game was Hopper, which I realized years later was a copy of some Penguin game, much like Munch Man was a Pac Man rip-off.

My entry into the Tech World was the Radio Shack / Tandy TRS-80 with Cassette Storage.
We could not be on it while the Oilers were playing or NBC 2 news was on.
I went to A&M with a IBM PC 8088 with 2 x 3.5" floppies and a 2400 baud modem to scan the Bulletin boards.

My older cousin worked at Radio Shack in high school and had one. I love going over to his house to play Dr J vs Larry Bird.

Munch Man beat the 2600 version of Pac Man hands down. It's not even a contest
