How long do you want to ignore this user?
Any recommendations for an ultra-wide w/a KVM switch that supports USB-C with charging?

<begin rant>
I recently purchased a Dell U3419W but it is an unmitigated piece of ***** If you use a Mac w/USB-C, do not believe any review that says it is a great home office monitor (looking at your RTINGS).

When accessing another computer on the monitor, eventually the Mac/usb-c starts cycling the monitor to "USB-C unplugged" then 10 seconds later "USB-C plugged in". Each time w/a message on the monitor and a beep that you cannot disable.

additionally you cannot control the monitor audio volume via the Mac nor keyboard. Any app playing audio you must use the app's volume controls. I'll eventually get speakers anyway but in the meantime it is still a PITA.

Dell knows this and punts.

It is indeed a great monitor, I have two of them at work. It's not Dell's fault that Apple doesn't play nice with others or tightly adhere to industry standards.

On the Dell troubleshooting page, they even talk about the chime issue you mentioned and it appears to be an OS/Apple issue.

Quote:

macOS Power Chime when connected to U3419W or U3818DW monitor:
  • You may hear a power chime noise on some Mac systems while it is asleep and charging from a USB-C connection to a Dell U3419W or U3818DW monitor. Try one of the following to resolve the problem:
  • Update your OS and drivers.
  • Disable sleep on the Mac system. Go to System Preferences > Energy Saver > Prevent monitor from sleeping automatically when the display is off.
  • Disconnect the USB-C cable from your Mac system whenever you power off your system.
  • Use the power adapter provided with your Mac system to charge it.

Apple is proud of their stuff.

So you cheaped out with the Dell monitor? I am curious and can offer no help.

Also I may own that exact monitor but happen to use it with a Dell laptop (usb-c) and Dell desktop (hdmi).

Thank you all for helping my dumb ass.

I'd found several dell articles on Mac setup that included some of the steps above and others but following those exactly seems to have fixed the beeping problem.

I'll deal w/the sound since I'll eventually hook up speakers.

Glad you got the more pressing problem solved!
