I will be deploying for anywhere from 4 to 8 months in the very near future and am looking for some good stand alone PC games (I will be on a ship without internet connection for my personal laptop).

So far, what I am leaning towards the following:

The Witcher III
Batman: Arkham Knight
Civilization VI

I missed out on Civilization VI being free in the Epic store, so I may not buy it now. I am not sure if I want to spend $60 on that game or not.

Have you considered a Nintendo Switch?

I have one, but am leaving it at the house for my kids to use.

My Time At Portia/Stardew Valley/Graveyard Keeper/Many other games in this genre like them
Grim Dawn/Diablo 2 LOD
Subnautica/Subnautica: Below Zero
Torchlight II
Entire Bioshock series
Borderlands 2 and 3 (pretty sure these can be played offline)
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
South Park: Stick Of Truth and South Park: Fractured But Whole
Titan Quest
Dark Souls games
Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2
Half-Life series
Portal 1 & 2
Elder Scrolls games
GTA series games
Lots of the Final Fantasy games are playable along with many other old school RPG's that take 100's of hours to beat fully.
Doom Eternal (pretty sure this can be played offline)
I dont play any of them but lots of the sports games have offline modes i believe.

Do you like point n click games like the old timey ones used to be? I can recommend a bunch of those too. (Not those garbage hidden item games like they put out today, real point n click)

Also, you can run emulation and play lots of older games like the GB Pokemons, N64 games like Mario 64 etc.

For offline play, I like games that offer open world play.

Witcher III, Red Dead 2, Metal Gear 5, GTA, Fallout 4, Far Cry series, etc. Some really good games in that group that would offer a ton of fun game play.

Appreciate the input.

FatZilla:
I don't play too much point and click.
I have played the Half-Life series back in the late nineties/early 2000s and really enjoyed it then.

coastalAg:
I agree with you. I played Horizon Zero Dawn and Red Dead 2 on PS4 and enjoyed them. At a certain point, I can get board of them, so I like to have other genres to mix in.

wangus12:
I have heard it is. I would also like to play the Assassin's Creed games, but haven't seen whether they require internet access even when playing solo campaign.

Off the top of my head, I have really enjoyed the following:

Half-life Series
Quake
Call of Duty Series
Uncharted Series (PS3/4)
Last of Us (PS4)
Horizon Zero Dawn (PS4)
Sea of Thieves (can't play offline)

All of the Assassin's Creed series can be played offline (the newest ones are incredible).
Sports games like FIFA.

If you only had time to play 1, which would it be? The newest one?

I really liked Odyssey because the Mediterranean setting and the sailing aspects. Origins was also really strong so maybe whichever is cheaper? Also, all the older ones are typically super cheap if you just want to load up on those.

Arkham knight is the worst of the three in the trilogy. It's not bad, per se, but not as good as the other two.

Definitely check out GOG.com and look for bundles. Same with humble bundle site, can usually fund great deals on them for games.

Good stuff. Thanks again for the inputs. This gives me a good direction to look. I only intend on downloading/installing 2 or 3 games. Hitman will be released free tomorrow on Steam, so that may end up being one of the 3 games since it is free and I haven't played it yet.

If space is a limitation, grab a usb 3.0 external hard drive and load it up with the games. I did this for a buddy while he was deployed in Afghanistan. Put tons of movies and games on it and it allowed him to share files with others while deployed.

If you end up with Witcher III, Batman, and an AC game you'll have 3 very good games that all have a large amount of exploration and stuff to do outside the main story quest. Hard to argue with that list!

I love Civ VI. One of those games I will randomly start up a game at any time. I have spent more than enough time playing it to cover the $60 charge.

Play through both Portal games, if you haven't yet. Don't look up anything about them prior to playing, though.

I enjoyed the **** out of Bannerlord 2, but took a break for a bit. I don't know where they are at with updates and such, but I recommend it.

If you like strategy games, the latest Europa Universalis and Hearts of Iron are great. Both have some significant learning curves but will help you kill a lot of time.

If you like to tinker around with things and just play for fun, being creative, Kerbal Space Program is one of the best games out there.

I purchased the Batman Arkham collection and The Witcher 3. That's a good start for now. I want to play Assassin's Creed, but there are too many for me to work through them all right now.

Try out Factorio, it's a game you can end up spending hundreds of hours on. Bonus of not having internet is you won't be tempted to look stuff up online and will have to figure things out on your own.

Oxygen not included is another one. Colony builder game, I poured 250+ hours into it.

If you like city builders, city skylines is great. There are a ton of mods that make it better. Make sure you move the mods to the game folder instead of the .appdata folder. It's a great game to just veg out on.

I'm in this exact same situation (well substitute the sea of water for a sea of sand) and bought Dishonored 1 and 2, Prey and Deus Ex (newest one) each of those should give me 30 ish hours of fun.

Great suggestions here I would add Mass Effect 2- the best of the series IMO and amazing game in general.

COnsider X-Com 2- this is a turn based squad based game humans vs aliens. Pretty deep and fun if you like squad strat games.

Civ 6 I love- I was considering bringing my laptop on a flight this weekend to play another round. Fantastic time burner.

Witcher 3 is my favorite game in my 40 years of gaming. Get the expansions.

Aw, you got all the Batman games. Good choice! I just played through Arkham Assylum again this year. It holds up really well. Will play through City and Knight again in the near future

Enjoy, great games!
