So whatcha payin' per month? I'm sitting at $70 per month for the AT&T Fiber 1000.
This worked great. I'm going to start tinkering with a pfsense router and switch my wifi router over to AP mode...Naveronski said:
The white box on your wall is the "modem", not the black router.
You can ditch it by using a switch and spoofing the MAC address.

You're not going to get gigabit over wifi with a built in Dell wifi card in a laptop. Stop running speed test and stop worrying about it.Teddy Perkins said:
What speeds are you getting with this method? I'm still wondering how to tap into that last 600Mbps (only getting around 400-450Mbps over WiFi with a Linksys EA8500 Max-Stream AC2600). All I did was put the AT&T modem/router in IP passthrough. I didn't mess with reassigning IP addresses or DMZ stuff. Everything works, I just don't know if there is something I'm missing to get every bit out of my fiber.
My internet died this morning,... If it doesn't come back by this evening when I get home I'll redo the setup and see how long it lasts this time.Naveronski said:
With the ATT box in bypass, using my nighthawk as a router, my internet speed was severely throttled.
I would get full speed when using only the ATT box, but by adding my own router, the speed went to crap. So I removed it.
Let us know how it goes!TMoney2007 said:My internet died this morning,... If it doesn't come back by this evening when I get home I'll redo the setup and see how long it lasts this time.Naveronski said:

I ordered a mini-pc to use as a pfsense router, so I think I'm going to try the bypass method where you keep the residential gateway connected to do authentication but the wan traffic still bypasses it.
Most of this is just because I'm interested in learning more about this kind of thing.
I just got pfsense installed Monday and started messing with it tonight. Figured out freebsd (not that difference from Linux) and started to learn ssh... I'll figure out how to run my next plex server headless...Jethro95 said:
Make sure to check out pfBlockerNG on pfSense. It's like pi-hole on steroids.
Are you on the AT&T Pace 5268AC? If so, it might be that. This gateway/router had a firmware issue for almost a damn year that prevented you from using your own router. If you tried to bridge your own router your speed immediately dropped to about 50mbs. They finally rolled out a firmware upgrade a couple of months ago that fixed that but then broke telephone wifi. Not sure if they fixed the latter yet.Naveronski said:

Yep, I agree it's *****
That's why I don't use it, and bypass it as mentioned.
Unfortunately, their CS sucks, and they really don't give a **** about your wasted time or frustration.

Where are you?
Thanks. I'll let you know.Naveronski said:
I'm not sure when I'll be over there next, but I can help you set your router up via Zoom or Facetime if you're interested.
