I have an old computer and two old phones that I need to get all of the pictures, data, etc. off of so that I can get rid of them.
I have no idea how to go about doing this properly.

Are there services that do this? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on how old the computer is. If you can boot it up and connect it to your hous' internet, then you can set up a Network Workgroup to share files. However, there are limitations on different Windows versions that will allow this. I own an adapter that will turn any internal hard drive into a USB Flash Drive. It comes in very handy to take the hard drive out of an old computer and plug into a new one. You'd want to shop around to find one that fits the type of hard drive in your old machine. But something like this.
Old phones also depends on a bunch of things. Some phones have removable SD cards that can help. But if it can connect to w-fi then there are a bunch of apps that will let you upload pictures to a cloud such as Dropbox or Google Photos.

Both.

I want to download all the stuff on there. Then erase everything so I can get rid of them.

Dban kills everything.

Make sure not to use it until after your data is saved.

Save data first, then nuke it.

If you are throwing away a hard drive, then a drill can be easier and be more effective. Warning: do not drill through a phone battery.

A) my crazy friends, degauss, then shred, then burn.

B) I use a company which can provide a documented destruction, and erase it myself.

• Connect device(s) to internet
• Upload data, pics, etc. to your cloud of choice
• Double check cloud to make sure all your data is there
• Drill holes through said devices/harddrives
• Trash devices

1. Back up everything on the drives on Google Drive / Dropbox / ...
2. Put the drives in a closet as a second backup for everything

2 types of media in 2 locations is what I try to use for important stuff.

Hammers work for the erasing part. If you're looking to sell the phones or drives reformat, refill, reformat, refill, reformat ought to be good. Make sure the drives are written over a couple of times to fully degrade any data.
