I purchased one but might return it as it seems it doesn't play nice with other smart control apps.

What type of opener do you have? If you have a Liftmaster with the MyQ, you could get one of these and it'll do the same thing. You can't do ITTT stuff with it, but you can check status and open/close with your phone or tablet. I've had it for a year and love it.
