In the market for a baby monitor. I am looking for something that has at a minimum the following:

1. Color screen
2. ability to add up to 3 cameras
3. WiFi, so you can view from your phone or tablet if not at home

Any recommendations?

So you want a monitor with a dedicated parent unit, as well as remote WiFi access from your cell phone?

For WiFi compatible, we tried the Lollipop and it was super clear image. But no parent unit, so always had to have our phone on us.

For normal monitor, we like and still have the Eufy SpaceView but it doesn't have remote WiFi viewing. We tried the Infant Optics, but it couldn't compare to the Eufy especially as a toddler age camera.

We tried a few baby monitors and they all crapped out after a while. We ended up going with Yi cameras with SD cards installed and dedicated an old tablet to monitoring. That way it recorded everything for later viewing and we could access it away from the house.

We've used a Summer for our three kids and been plenty happy with it. No network connectivity, but that's not something we really wanted anyway.

Just my opinion, but I would recommend no monitor at all and to get something else that is more useful.

Heard some good things about wyze. But not sure if the security on their products are top notch

All of the baby monitors we tried were awful. I'd go with a nest cams and a small, inexpensive tablet instead of a parent unit.

Yes, Last baby monitor I bought was in 2010 so I am just now trying to get caught up with all the new gadgets.

I want a dedicated unit(s) to leave around the house for when we have babysitters, parents watching the kids, etc. Also want to be able to view the cameras when I am out of town or out for the evening.

This Motorola seems to check all the boxes https://www.buybuybaby.com/store/product/motorola-reg-5-inch-hd-video-baby-monitor-with-wifi-and-two-cameras/1060187253?categoryId=32478 but got some bad reviews

But would love to hear some first hand experiences with this or similar products.

We tried that one. I thought the parent unit battery life sucked and the video quality on the parent unit and in general was not great.

Thanks. Maybe I just need to set up a tablet as the main parent unit like others have mentioned. This one seems cool.

Never tried the Nanit but we ended up using an old iPad mini and Nest cams.

We used a very similar unit, but without the remote viewing option. We never had any problems with it. Image was clear with both IR and with light, sound was as good as could be expected, and the battery was good enough for two or three naps. We always put it back on the charger after nap anyway, though.

Been using the same summer for over 5 years. Just bought another camera for it off of ebay to catch my dog getting on the couch. Works perfect. No wifi though. Can't believe it hasn't broken yet considering that my daughter likes to play with the parent unit.

We have 2 summer monitors too. They dont have a ton of "techy" options but one is 5.5 years old and one is 3.5 years old...only issue is batterly life is gone from both but we leave them on the docking station anyways...

We ended up with an Arlo Q cam in the kid's room. Used to use it a bunch and the slight delay annoyed us, but now we check in once a night average. We leave a fire tablet around if we have a sitter or just plug in the audio monitor.

Anyone using the Yi cams? Thinking about doing that with a fire tablet or something as dedicated monitor.

I don't know much about IP cams and stuff so I'm curious and have had a hard time finding an answer to this question. Could I set up some Yi cams and run them on their own wireless network with a router that's not connected to the internet? Just want to use it internally at the house, don't care about checking in from outside.

You should be able to. I can try it when I get home tonight.

We have 2 nanits and love them. For the first few weeks, it's really nice as an actual monitor. Later, when they are sleeping better, it's really helpful to see they crashed within 5 minutes of being put to sleep or were up for a good 30-40 minutes.

You can also give access to other folks (grandparents) to view. My mom loves it because she's in FL and wakes up and watches the kids as they get up.

We used infant optics DXR-8 - worked great except that it broke after 1 year. Something broke where the charging cord plugs into the monitor, the cord wouldn't create a charging connection.

Bought a 2nd one, and the same thing happened again 1 year out.

Sorry, missed that.....interested in your later post about running them on local network only.

Doesn't appear so. I disconnected my internet but left the router turned on and wasn't able to connect. Looks like it's web based.

i think that's been the only concern with these cameras, based on the reviews i've read.....that your video is being collected by the Chinese overlords.

True, I'd rather have a parent unit than wifi. I can reach over a touch a button in the middle of the night to check on the kid instead of having to fool around with a cell phone and open an app, which probably requires authentication, etc.

Also, my camera has color, but that only works when the light is on(1% of the time you're checking it), since dark mode uses infrared light. There's barely any difference with color. Black and white is just fine for this application. Eliminating an option due to lack of color would be overkill imo.

Saw on the mesh wifi thread that you have a Orbi rbk50 system. Have you had any problems with connectivity or lag with your Yi cameras while using the mesh system? I've seen some comments about issues with wifi camera connectivity.

I have the RBK33 system. And I haven't had any noticeable issues on my end. It also rings my Ring cameras just fine as well.

Dropcam/Nest cam off of eBay with our phones.

We generally leave our doors open, so the cameras are more for waking hours/checking in anyway. Any issues will be voiced adequately.

Our first monitor was the motorala and it crapped out on is which was very dissapointing.

We converted to the Wyze cameras and use an old iPhone or fire tablet as the monitor. The cameras are amazing quality.

You don't need a wifi monitor when they are young, they aren't going anywhere and you'll be super paranoid if your internet goes down and you can't see them.

We did the Infant Optics monitor. Not the best picture or and the battery isn't the best, but its been cheap and reliable. We can see the kids and that's all you really need.
