Good review.

I put more weight in y'all's feedback than any other site because

1. Common background

2. No ulterior motives

Yeah its getting hammered. Bioware just needs to try and go back to making full fledged RPGs like KOTOR, Mass Effect and Dragon Age. Those original games were fantastic. Not every game needs to be an online multiplayer to be successful
Man, I wish they would do this.

The best game, according to critics, last year was god of war. The game was probably played by 10 million players total. That's an ungodly amount for a system exclusive single player game.

Apex legends got 25 million players in one week.

Going to be sad whenever pleasing the investors wins out more often than not over good, story driven, games. I always seem to hibernate in the winter and finish up games that have been sitting on the shelf, and GoW was one of them this winter.

Finally finished it up and it was pretty outstanding. Creating games, with stories and worlds like GoW, HZD, Witcher 3, Uncharted, BotW, etc. will almost always get me to pre-order and spend some money.

I've learned from Destiny 1 & 2, which I do enjoy when there's new content, to stop shelling out my money for these half-baked games. Sadly, I know games as a service is probably the route we're heading down in the gaming industry.

The only way gaming will swing back to that is if people stop playing games with revenue models like Fortnite, Apex Legends, overwatch, Destiny, etc.

Publishers have a fiduciary duty to make the most money for their stockholders. Making a great single player game will not produce nearly the ROI a shallow multiplayer game will.

Unless you're name is rockstar, and you're a big publisher, you can expect more AAA games to be like Anthem, Destiny, and Fallout 76. Hopefully though they all go to free-to-play so we don't have to fork over money up front for crap.

The economics and fascination with "3D" graphics have changed all that so I get it. I think that is partially why you have seen some developers go back to the 2d isometric gameplay that focuses on story as much as gameplay. They can fill the gap for folks like me who don't require a big, ridiculous AAA title. We just want a single player game with robust story and gameplay.

I've play those throwbacks (eg Baldurs Gate) whenever released (eg Wasteland 2) and I find myself looking for the next big thing in that category more than anything else.

There's definitely a gap between hard and grandmaster 1. Hard is pretty easy, grandmaster 1 kicks my butt and one shots me all the time. I assume the first few masterworks will be the toughest to get then get a little easier with each new one

Bioware was a great story. Two doctors made games they wanted to play and they were awesome. I believe they have lost interest and passion and now are making games due to EA's demands and schedule. Sadly I think they just need to hang it up they haven't been great since Mass Effect 2.
Most of the A team writers for Bioware left after Mass Effect three finished, both founders retired in 2012, not to mention the loss of a General manager and several key designers Bioware is basically a shell of what it once was, I fear they may go the way of Maxis, but I hope they can turn it around

I have dabbled in GM2 for a contract we completed it but it was tough without comms for priming and detonating. Spieg and I have been running GM1 for the past couple days, I don't think it's bad at all. Just hope they up the loot drops a tad more

GM1 is pretty easy now, GM2 just takes a really long time to kill things, even with a legendary weapon with +100% damage. No one has even confirmed that the increased drop rate is confirmed.

Something I heard that I hope is completely untrue is that the chance for the better inscriptions on items is increased in GM2/3. It would make absolutely no sense to do that sense you can't progress past GM1 without the good rolls so I really hope this is just something dumb and untrue I heard. The rolls on inscriptions are already horrible enough, they don't need to handicap people in GM1 with a luck progression wall.

Loot update that will launch today or tomorrow:

  • Inscriptions are now better for the items they are on
    • This applies to new items earned in Anthem (not existing ones in your Vault)
    • If an inscription applies only to the item it is on (gear icon), it will be useful to that item. Otherwise the inscription will provide a Javelin wide benefit
    • For example, an Assault Rifle will not have an item specific +pistol damage inscription. It may have a +electric damage suit wide inscription (cool for a lightning build)
    • Some more information below
  • Removed uncommon (white) and common (green) items from level 30 drop tables
    • This was a highly requested change and we agree, so that's that.
  • We have reduced the crafting materials needed to craft a masterwork from 25 masterwork embers to 15 masterwork embers
    • As you salvage or harvest, you should be able to craft more masterwork items to get the inscriptions you are looking for
    • Now that inscriptions are more relevant to their item, this should yield better results for players
  • Current: There are a large pool of inscription options available to roll on items, the inscription pools are generic (e.g. Weapons)
    • Every masterwork item has 4 inscriptions Major Primary, Minor Primary, Major Secondary, Minor Secondary
  • Change: Each item type now has a specific set of inscription options for each of their inscription pools. The pools are smaller and are targeted to the specific item type
    • E.g. there used to be a Weapon pool, now there is an Assault Rifle pool and the assault rifle pool has 4 pools for each of the inscription types listed above
    • Primary inscriptions are focused on damage or survivability
      • Any item specific inscriptions (gear icon) will always benefit the item they are on
      • Javelin wide inscriptions (suit icon) will benefit damage or survivability across the whole Javelin
    • Secondary inscriptions focus on utility and can be targeted to the item (gear icon) or the entire javelin (suit icon)

This is sucha piece of ****e. Playing the last story mission and the game bugs out and is not letting us revive two people downed. But we can't move to the next section because not enough people to move onto the next area.

I'm glad the Destiny new season starts tomorrow. Anthem was fun for a week and a half while there was nothing to do on Destiny. But I'm going to be playing Destiny again for awhile while they work out what they want their game to be

I was looking at the AnthemtheGame subreddit today and it looks like a pretty harsh place at the moment... I know Destiny 2's reddit can get bad, but this looked rough for a game that's only been out a week.

Posted this in the Destiny thread but figured it'd be better to post it here.

Sounds like Anthem can cause some PS4s to power down and pseudo-brick it. It'll require you to rebuild some system files (I have no clue how to do that). https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues/PS4-Crashing-Info-Gathering/m-p/7625236/highlight/false#M18006

Also, don't try to cheese anything in this game. Gladd (a streamer) got banned for exploiting a loot chest farm (respawning in the Swarm Tyrant apparently?)

It's been found the best gun in the game is... A white level 1 Defender Rifle. It out damages masterwork and legendaries on all difficulties.

This game is crazy

I am actually enjoying watching Anthem burn. I have not found a single positive YouTube review.

My reasoning is that since Bioware did this to themselves that the studio will wake up and realize they have destroyed their own reputation with gamers.

Maybe this will save Dragon Age 4.

So I bought and started playing DA3 after it came out and played it a good bit until Witcher 3 came out. After playing the Witcher 3, I'm not sure I can go back to the DA games. I tried to pick up DA3 again awhile later, but, it felt so hollow, gameplay and storywise, compared to the Witcher 3.

After seeing Bioware flounder with this game and ME:A, I've lost a good deal of faith in their ability to create a complete, quality product.

I've liked anthem so far, it doesn't have to longevity I had hoped for yet but the developers are pretty transparent. Also some good quality of life changes coming on the 12th

They make great games, if they are released back in the late 2000's or very early 2010's.

The gaming industry has made great advancements in the past 5-6 years. BioWare is still stuck in 2010.

Oh, I totally agree.

Withcher 3 must be considered as a candidate for greatest RPG ever.

CD Projekt Red is now what Bioware and Bethesda once was; perhaps better.

Inquisition wasn't bad at all. I didn't love all the companions, but it was a fun game. The DLCs supposedly made it better. I have all of them sitting in my PS4 library, and I'll probably play them after the bar exam.

Anthem is doo doo and I regret paying for this game. Back to Destiny I go, D2 may be doo-doo as well but at least I enjoy myself without bricking my console

Witcher 3 is one of the best games ever. I know that sounds silly, but really...the game is truly excellent.

As for Anthem, ya know. Im actually having fun. It is clear to me Bioware indeed "found the fun" but something in development made them have to reboot and stitch the whole thing together. Why? I don't know.

They may be able to patch it into a "good" game with time. Either this game will be great in a year, or dead.
