Smallish 4k TV recommendations - 40 to 43 inches

So, we keep the TV in an armoire, which limits the screen size to 40 to 43 inches. Because of RDR2, I'm switching to the XBox One X and am considering upgrading from 1080 to 4k. I realize the smaller screen makes for less of a difference at this size than on a larger screen, but... you know... new TV.

Anybody have a recommendation for a 4k TV in the 40 to 43 inch range? I don't care a lick about smart TV features and just want something with black blacks and good colors that will look good playing XBox and watching Aggie football.

These two Sonys look like popular choices, just from cruising Amazon, but they only have 60 hz refresh rates:

There are some TCL TVs that have good reviews and good specs but I don't know anything about them.

Anybody have one they love?

I picked up the 2017 version of the TCL 43" from Costco and have been pleased:

I also recently purchased a TLC in the 40-43" range, no issues so far

If you're in Houston you might be interested in the Sony 43" 4K I'm selling.

Same TV, love it.

However, get rid of the armoire and get a 65". Didn't we discuss this two weeks ago?

Thanks but I think I'm gonna spring for something at 120 Hz when I make the jump.

To jump in on this. We are looking at getting a new tv for the living room during the whole black Friday hoopla. Our living room tv is really old. Looking at getting a smart tv 50"+ and trying to stay under ~800

I'd use rtings.com to identify some likely TVs - that way you can see what's out there with whatever features you particularly want.

As I mentioned above, I love my 43" TCL Roku TV, which is a secondary TV for me. The smart features and interface are really simple and easy. Whether you get a TCL or not, I'd consider something with Roku built in. Not all smart platforms have apps for everything - for example, Chromecast doesn't have an app for Amazon Prime Video, which is one I frequently use. Both Amazon Firestick and Roku do have apps for that.

I have yet to find a major app that is missing from Roku; it even has a Locast.org app - the website we've mentioned here that takes your local broadcast stations and streams them. I'm in Houston, and CBS doesn't offer a streaming option to regular cable subscribers. I also can't pick up their over the air signal at my house for whatever reason. Locast has been fantastic for actually getting CBS onto my TV.

Another vote for the TCL. I have the 55" model, ,it's great. Also seriously considering getting the 43" model to use as a computer monitor very soon.

Have a 49" and 55" 2018 4k TCL and a 65" 4k Sony.

Prefer the UI and functionality of the TCL. RDR2 on the X looks amazing on my 49".

The TCL are soo inexpensive I can't justify buying anything else right now. Very happy with them.

I had an RCA 36" crt tv in the late 90s. It was state of the art. Had s video connection. Weighed about 200 lbs. Then the hd / hd ready wave hit.

I have to echo what everyone has said here about TCL. We have a 55" in the living room and a 32" in the bedroom. The UI is fantastic.

And, they're so cheap, I'm considering buying a 43" for my patio.

I remember the first lcd TV my parents bought around 2004 or 05. It was a 37" 720p and it cost ~$1,300.. I still have it actually.

I feel like I've narrowed it down the TCL and Samsung. When I looked at them in store (Best Buy) the TCL just looked way dirtier/grainy and I couldn't decide if it is actually the tv or just what Best Buy had showing on the screen (Some tv ads) compared to what they had on the Samsung screen (nature video that was probably shot with 4k camera.

The Samsung just looked much crisper. The rtings.com reviews have them at pretty much a tie.

What kind of smart TV software does the Samsung have? I have a 52" Samsung LCD from about 2007 or so and I've never had any complaints, but I just love the Roku software on my TCL soooooo much. My Samsung was before smart TVs, so I haven't got any experience with whatever they offer.

I will say that it makes more sense to me for a TV to use Roke, Amazon Fire, etc. over rolling their own apps and such. You will never get the wide app support for a proprietary system that you get for one that is big and popular. My Panasonic Z has a few smart apps and they're crappy - but to be fair, it was a somewhat early smart TV.

I bought a oled LG after I got my xbonex. Over time I felt like my timing was off triggering animations in sports games and reaction was slow in fighting games.

I started looking on line and my new TV had super lag with a 12 ms response time.

So if you play competitive online games it might be worth finding one with low lag.

I have a TCL (49") so bigger than you wanted...but have been very pleased

4k, HDR, Smart apps....love having these built into the TV...no issues since July streaming content.

Picture looks good after you find the ROKU app and some calibration settings .

12ms is considered extremely low input lag. You might need to turn off some post-processing stuff and/or turn on "game mode".

Damn!

We are looking at getting a big 4k TV for the living room and I'd keep my old Samsung tv for the new Xbox 1 X, but I might spring to get that tv as well so I have 4k tv for gaming

Not sure that 4K in a 43" size does you much good unless you're sitting a maximum of 6' from the screen.

I'm about 4 feet from the tv in the spare bedroom that I play games in. Right now I have a 37 in. tv there. Its a small room with just enough space for a bed, couch & dresser.
