I bought this one (the 65" model) before Christmas last year and have no complaints.

I bought this for our bedroom. Great tv for the price (I got it on a price match+5%). My only complaint is the remote is easy to lose. But a cool feature is that you can use your Roku app and it will stream the audio through your phone. So you can watch TV with headphones via your phone

We have that exact tv for the kids playroom. Picture looks great, roku on board is way easier than having two remotes for them to only watch the disney app

I have the 55" as well. We got it at Costco for about $400. It was a nice option. We use the Roku all the time. My only complaint is sometimes when powering on it doesn't automatically connect to the wifi network, so I have to go through the menu to reconnect it.

But, for that price tag, I'll put up with that minor inconvenience. The picture is great.

I literally just bought this exact TV. Good picture. Great price.

What exactly do you want to know?

How far apart are the stands?
Does it get Dolby vision? Or is that HDR10? What's the deifference?
It does get regular cable box provided tv, right? Not just smart tv Roku service.
ROKU works off your WiFi, right? It has to doesn't it?
Does it have the Amazon streaming app built in as well as VUDU? VUDu I am almost certain it does but not sure about Amazon.

Pretty sure it's only HDR10 and you have to step up to the p605/607 to get Dolby Vision support.

I have the 55p607 and it's an excellent TV, especially for the price.

We have directv set up with it.
It does have amazon available. Roku is baked in. And the wireless connection works great.

Does it get Dolby vision? No. Or is that HDR10? Yes. What's the deifference? No clue.
It does get regular cable box provided tv, right? Yes, it accepts coax, component, and HDMI inputs. Not just smart tv Roku service. Correct.
ROKU works off your WiFi, right? It has to doesn't it? You can use it wired or wireless.
Does it have the Amazon streaming app built in as well as VUDU? VUDu I am almost certain it does but not sure about Amazon. I believe so, yes. I was able to download both.

Old thread, and you probably made up your mind a while ago. But, I just got this TV in the 65" yesterday, and I recalled this thread and wanted to add to it in case anybody else was considering it. I've been looking for a 65" 4k with HDR since Black Friday, and finally jumped on a refurb deal on this ($492 no tax, delivered through eBay. Now expired). Best price/reviews I've seen. Sam's had a Hisense for $499 the other day, but I'd already ordered this one. Anyhow...

Longevity will be key, but my initial impressions are off the charts (for the price). Obviously, it's no LG OLED, but for under $500 the picture is outstanding. I really like the baked-in Roku interface, it's familiar and intuitive as opposed to most smart TVs custom-built garbage interfaces. And sound is even pretty decent. I'll be wall-mounting and hooking it up to my receiver ultimately, but I set it up yesterday just to test functionality in case I needed to return. Loving it so far, highly recommended.

This. So much this.

And the best part? If (when) Roku/TCL no longer support that version of the firmware, I can plug in (via HDMI) whatever new hardware Roku has on the market at the time.

Win-win!

Bumping an old thread. Looking at a 65" TCL, and comparing 2017 vs 2018. Is it worth the $100 to get the 2018?
This is the 65S517 vs the 65C807 on amazon

I wouldn't get the 800-series anyway since those are edge-lit displays versus the full array, local dimming (FALD) backlighting used in the 600-series. The 800-series is meant to look fancy, but the 600-series has the best picture.

I'd look at the 607 (2017 model) or the 617 (2018 model).

Reading a bunch of reviews on the new series on branding issues. I was thinking about getting one for our living room but ended up pulling the trigger on a 2017 LG OLED. May get one for the bedroom once the banding issue gets resolved.

Looks like it's slightly worse than last year's model (which is what I have), but still not bad. The only time I ever notice it on mine is with a uniform gray screen (very rare except game loading screens) and I'm looking at an off angle. Even then, it's faint.

From the Rtings review:
Quote:

The performance is comparable to the 2017 TCL P605/P607 model although not quite as good. There is some small banding visible in dark reds, greens and grays, but no major banding in any color. Those minor imperfections are not likely to ruin a good HDR movie watching experience.

I have the 65R617 and have been very pleased with it. I had heard about the banding issues before I bought and it hasn't been enough an issue with my panel at least for me to notice. For the money I'm not sure you can do better. I wanted a 65" and the P607 from last year was only available in 55", so for me at least there was no question of buying last years model.

How about the 65R615? Stupid 5 year old Samsung started the constant power flickering tonight and when I looked up parts doesn't look like they're available, so with the game this week I'm all of a sudden in the market.

The R615 and R617 are the same TV, they just come with different remotes. The R615 is the Best Buy exclusive model that comes with an IR remote that lacks voice search capability versus the RF remote with voice search that comes with the R617.
