Maybe you can help me out. My parents just bought a ROKU stick yesterday. They plugged in the ROKU stick to the HDMI port and can see the picture when the port is selected; however, they cannot hear any sound.

They do have a soundbar with an optical connection between, I think, the TV and the sound bar. The sound for their DirecTV and their DVD player come out of the sound bar.

Is there any reason you can think of that they wouldn't be able to hear the sound from the ROKU stick? My mom has tried all of the troubleshooting on the ROKU site, but none of it has worked.

Also, if more information is needed, let me know and I can try and get that info for you.

Have you tried everything here?

It sounds like your sound bar can't directly decode the HDMI signal.
