With a little knowledge of optics and five minutes of piddling around one can turn a laser pointer into a line generator for arc measurement in X-wing. I cut a piece of glass capillary to size and positioned it perpendicular to the laser path, dialed it in a tad and bang.

There's a video I saw awhile back of somebody using some device to generate a laser on the table to measure arcs . You just held it above the table and pointed it straight down.
