PS4 won't recognize game discs

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yesterday I inserted a blu ray disc into my PS4. The console makes a bunch of clunky noises, then says "unrecognized disc". I ejected the disc, only to find that something in the case it was stored in had gotten attached to the disc when I inserted it in the PS4. In the attempt to read the disc, the PS4 smudged the object all over the blu ray disc.

Since that event, my PS4 will not recognize any game discs. But, it will recognize and run the CleanDR Blu Ray cleaner disc that I bought. It runs it just fine.

I've tried cleaning via the cleaner disc multiple times, I've tried reading multiple discs, I've even tried shutting the PS4 off, removing the power connection for several minutes, and rebooting. No luck.

After several moments of clunky sounds, every disc I try other than the cleaner disc fails to be recognized by the PS4.

Have I completely busted my disc drive? Anything else I should try?

If your PS4 isn't under warranty anymore I would suggest taking it apart and cleaning the disc reading lens with rubbing alcohol and a q-tip. Did this with my PS3 years ago and it helped immensely. Although it did require taking apart the disc drive and there are pieces in there that have to be put together right or else it won't work.

make sure you get one of these first:

it is for the extra, optional parts you will have left over when you put it back together.

After a slight issue with using a t8 torx bit instead of a t8 torx security bit, I was able to open the disk drive, found some serious smudges, cleaned it, put it all back together, and now it's all back in working order.

Thanks!
