What internet speed are you ordering? That modem may be overkill...

200.

Thought about that. But the price differences are not huge and would rather buy only once and have the ability to upgrade speed if I want. Only $149 on Amazon.

I've had good luck so far with a Zoom 5370 on TWC's 200/20 service. I think that TWC doesn't use more than 16 bonded downstream channels anywhere yet, so yeah you're basically paying extra for future-proofing with the 6190 if they start supporting 24 or 32 channels. The thing is, they might just make the jump to DOCSIS 3.1, which the 6190 wouldn't work with anyway...

I've been happy with the CM600 that I have, may be another option for you. Like akaggie said, a new DOCSIS standard may change things...

SB6183 = 16 / 4 (686Mbps)
SB6190 = 32 / 8 (1.4Gbps)
Netgear CM600 = 24 / 8 (960Mbps)

You can buy one of these and light up your whole house.

I'm rolling with this right now:

Netgear AC1600 - WiFi Cable Modem Router

Got it for free through the friends and family program.

SB6141 = 8 / 4 (343Mbps)
Not as future-proof and is a relatively old DOCSIS 3.0 modem

Can you use the online reset feature if you bring your own modem? Also what is their "Free Home wifi"?

Yes, you can. I assume the free WiFi means they'll rent you a combination modem/wifi router. That's what my parents have from them.

Personally, I'd go with the SB6190 you mentioned for future proofing, though it is $50 more than the SB6183 that would suit your current needs.

Do not buy a modem/router combo!

Why not? Just less reliable?

Yup, and routers and modems upgrade technology at far different rates. So, you don't have to pay to replace a perfectly functional modem every time you want to upgrade your WiFi connectivity.

Just switched to TWC and bought these 2. All good so far.

Modem

Router

Both solid options for the money, though the SB6183 has wider compatibility than that Netgear. The compatibility thing isn't a problem if you don't plan on switching internet providers in the future.
