How long do you want to ignore this user?
Computer-smart Ag dudes:

Give me your thoughts about a link or a website which will give me the weight of a typical ceiling tile that has been soaked in water. I'd guess the tile is a 24" x 24" square. Before you slam me too badly...yes, I have searched the 'net before asking for help.

Thanks!

What is the thickness of the tile?

Looking up information on ceiling tiles, a 2'x2' ceiling tile when dry weighs approximately 0.188125lb (Box of 64 weighs 12.04lb, on HomeDepot.com) and in the scant research I see, I see values between 34% and 53% increase in weight when submerged in water for an extended period of time, leading to a final weight between 0.252 lb and 0.288 lb per tile.

PDF file showing average water absorption for ceiling tiles as compared to their product

Google Books information spore production in building materials, to include information on ceiling tiles, dry versus wet weight comparison

I'm going to guess it's an inch in thickness. If the ceiling tile is what would be considered "typical" for use in an office or a store or building, I would guess it to be an inch thick. I'm sure there are options in the purchase of the tile. I'm sure there are options in the construction material of the tile. If there is a table or pdf or something similar, that would be of the greatest use. However, a mathematical formula will assist, too.

A box is 64 sq. ft., not 64 tiles. 64 sq. ft. is only 16 tiles. So a single dry tile weighs closer to 1.33lbs, meaning a wet tile would weigh between 1.78 and 2 lbs.

Huh, I would've thought it would be higher than a quarter pound per tile.

If I was just using math without looking at the practical absorbancy testing nwspmp found, I'd do it like this:

First, I'd put it in units I can use.
Standard tile = 24x24x5/8"
24"=~60cm
5/8"=~1.5cm

Volume of the tile is 5400cm^3 or 5400 ml
Density of H2O=1g/cm^3

So, if the entire volume of the tile were filled with water it would be 5400g or 5.4kg.

Back in American, that's about 12lbs. Knowing that tile material is less dense than water, 12lbs is the theoretical max weight of a soaked tile. Since we know that only a Sham-Wow can achieve this level of absorbancy, I'd knock off 50-75% and say the avg weight of your soaked tiles would be around 3-6 lbs. I'm not disputing the researched data, just saying this is how I would back-of-the-napkin it.

Doh!

Good catch! Thanks!

I must know!

Is he setting some type of diabolical trap where water slowly drips onto a ceiling tile above his nemesis's desk and then collapses on their head?

What do you mean? An African or European soaked ceiling tile?
