How long do you want to ignore this user?
I have a laptop w/Windows 8 that I rarely use because I have never really learned. I also have an Iphone that I find very easy to use. I have been wanting a tablet to carry w/me while traveling. I just want to use it as a wifi device to surf, email, etc. I looked briefly at Ipads but I thought they were too expensive for my small amount of use. Today I was at Best Buy to pick up something so I quickly looked at this Samsung. I am looking for something that I can easily learn to use & this one is on sale thru Sat. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Samsung has always put out a pretty quality product no matter what it is. It looks like the reviews are overwhelmingly positive so you've got that going with this one.

The one thing I would point out is that this tablet is Android based and not the iOS (the operating system you're used to on your phone). Most people seem to really prefer one over the other, but I've used both pretty extensively and like them both for different reasons. Android is a way more open platform which I prefer in a tablet so I think you may like it. Takes a little getting used to and is more complex than iOS but not overwhelming or anything. 16GB of storage so not a ton of space to save an excessive amount of stuff, but for casual browsing like you mentioned I think you'd be fine with this tablet.

I just looked at the Ipad online to compare cost. I can get a mini for $250. Just thinking that the extra $50 might be worth it so I don't have to learn a new system. Other than size, price, memory I am not sure what else to compare.

Save yourself the trouble, and get an iPad. I'm a big-time Android guy, but my wife and my parents have all Apple devices. From your experience with Windows 8, it sounds like you'd be in the same boat as them.

Personally, if I was looking for my mom or somehting, I'd just watch SlickDeals for a good deal on a refurb . They had iPad 2's yesterday for $139. My wife's iPad 2 is still chugging along just fine for Pinterest, Facebook, stupid in-App-purchase games, and Netflix shows involving bitter housewives and/or vampires.

If you were really wanting the smaller screen and not just doing it for price, you can get a refurb iPad mini directly from Apple with the same warranty as a new one for $10 more than the Samsung you mentioned. LINK.

Go to Stardock.com and buy their $4.95 Windows 8 product. It basically gives you back the Win 7 GUI and works like you are used to. It's a lot cheaper than buying a tablet.

Either try this or just wait for the free Windows 10 upgrade at the end of this month.

TXAGBQ76- I glanced at that. I think that would be great for my laptop. If you haven't already figured out I can be technically challenged. My son is my IT guy but he is currently in flight training at Vance AF Base (WHOOP!) so when he comes home & has some time I will talk to him about that. That seems like a great solution however I might still be interested in a tablet to reduce weight/bulk while traveling.

Get an ipad then. By your own admission you don't pick up technology well so you already know iOS and should stick there.
