Nexus 5 owners - your phone still trucking along?

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I need to get my mom a new phone, and she's got a $100 credit towards a phone from T-mobile. I was looking at a certified used Nexus 5 for $200 after the discount. She mainly needs it, over something like a Galaxy SIII, for the bigger screen. I've seen some issues pop up online lately that the newest update has caused problems with some peoples' phones. Do y'all recommend the phone for every day use for a mom?

Thanks

Can't answer for the Nexus 5 these days but I did have one for a year or so. Great phone other than poor battery and mediocre camera. I could deal with the camera, but the battery life was just too bad.

I'd look at the used M8 over the Nexus 5.

Still have mine, I'd recommend it if you can get a good deal on it. My Wife has a Moto X which has beefier specs and has also been a great phone for the price.

Have a Nexus 5 still going strong and my favorite phone I've ever owned. Battery life seems about average to me, but the fact that I could get a wireless charger and keep my phone sitting on it all day while I'm at work means it is almost always charged up anyway.

Lollipop is great and I'm surprised by the comments by people that don't like it or have had problems with it.

Love the integration with all the Google apps, and if you teach your mom to use the "OK GOOGLE" function, she will love it.

Still rolling with the N5 and love it. Best phone I've ever owned. Battery life is average, and much better than the Galaxy Nexus.

I'm on my second one (the first had a defective screen). After the better part of 2 years IMO it's been far better than average, and I'm not looking to replace it because there doesn't seem to be much out there at the moment that's enough of an improvement to justify the price. If it continues to hold up I could see it making 3 years.

Yea I'm gonna try to hold out for the next Nexus which should have USB-C.

Yep, still going strong. Best phone, I've owned. Convinced my hesistant brother to get one to replace his S3 a couple months ago, he does not regret it. Only complaint is battery life is subpar but other than that, with the timely undates from google, its perfect. Also waiting/hoping for the new 2015 version w/ USB type C.

The battery issue may be big, as she often forgets to charge or plays games a lot when she's bored. Alternatively, I think they have used Galaxy S5's and HTC M8's for $80 more, both with much better batter life. Or I can also get her a wireless charger and hope that she uses that.

Any thoughts?

My internal microphone quit working on mine a few months back. Looks to be an issue from LG working on it. Phone itself still worked great, just couldn't talk into it. Loved the phone.

My LG G3 likes to reboot itself for no reason since I upgraded to lollipop....With KitKat it seemed more snappy and it never just restarted itself at random times.

Did you do a hard reset/clean install after upgrading? That may be worth a try if nothing else is working.

Any of y'all running custom ROMs you're fond of?

My wife has a Nexus5 and she loves it, mainly because it isn't cluttered with carrier apps.
Battery life is fine or I'd hear about it. I did enable battery management for her just in case though.
As for having more screen size than a SIII, not so much. I'm still using my SIII in hopes of a new Nexus
to upgrade to....Please, Please, let's have a new Nexus?! (Our son has a Nexus6 and it's ok, but just
ok sadly.) I just too.may have to get a Nexus5.

Mine had the screen crack from the world's lightest drop. It slid off my pant leg while I was sitting on the ground. Still can't believe that that cracked it. I got a S6 shortly after. I was running CyanogenMod and a custom kernel.

S6 is just rooted so far.

There's a Nexus 5 (2015) to be released sometime in the near future.... So you should definitely wait.
