I just got one; OP is right. This is the best case I've had. The use of the waterproof gasket right against the glass is ingenious and gets rid of the terrible plastic cover that doesn't work in the desert sun. The only drawback is the waterproof plug and the headphone dongle which I solved by getting Motorola bluetooth headphones for the gym. All other times, I use the Klipsch earbuds with the dongle for better sound. Just don't lose the plug or dongle when you're traveling or you're SOL.
I've had the Lifeproof Fre case for my iPhone 5 and my unlocked iPhone 4 in Southwest Asia a few rotations and they're pretty good. Our main issue is always dust and overall protection. Since it's waterproof, it takes care of that, isn't nearly as bulky as the Otterbox and doesn't let dust in like the Otterbox.
I'm headed back out to Afghanistan with my bag of Apples, iPhones, iPads and one really crappy, bulky, under-spec'd government-supplied Dell they make me use for work. We'll see how the new case works out.
